Great A+ Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have owned the TKR-820 since 2002. It's been in several places over the years. It's self-contained and portable. You'll have to find someone who has the programming equipment for it. It takes an EEPROM programmer and a small 8-pin chip holds the frequency and PL data.

It uses a 28 watt power module and is rated for 20 watts. A small fan on the heat sink would probably be a good idea if it's going to be used at 100% duty cycle. The RX sensitivity is good (0.35 uV for 20 dB SINAD on mine) and the front end filtering is tight and clean. The audio thruput is excellent. There are potentiometers in the factory controller that allow you to adjust things like max deviation, PL deviation, hang time, time-out timer, etc.

It does NOT have a CD ID board. For $50 you can grab an ID-O-Matic and interface it to the MOLEX connector on the back. It provides you with all the necessary signaling you need to interface with.

Overall it's a great unit and I have been pleased with the performance for years.
