Dependable and withstands the harshest weather			Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have owned the TA34XL for 16 years and it is a workhorse. I have never had any problems with it even when it has been through many winter ice storms that would probably have destroyed other antennas. The XL does not require any struts because of its 2 in. OD boom. Spend a little more and get a quality beam ant. I have now owned this antenna for over 29 years and it is performing as great as ever.

I started with a TA33M. If someone was buying a NEW tri-band beam, I highly recommend the TA34XL. It has almost as high a gain as the bigger "Pro" Mosleys at half the price. While the TA33M is a very good and economical antenna the TA34XL has higher gain and is much more directional than the 33. My TA34XL is actually a home brew conversion utilizing parts from a second TA33M and the 2 inch boom from an old Classic 33. You can modify a TA33M to a TA34XL by adding an additional 7 foot section of TA33 (1 1/2 in)boom plus a second director on the front end. This is basically what the TA34XL is. The extra 7 foot of length and second director give you the added gain and directionality. But the 1 1/2 inch boom that comes with the TA33M is too small to properly support the longer (now 21 ft) boom with four elements. So if you do the "conversion" be sure to support the 1 1/2 inch X 21 foot boom with a 6 ft. strut and non-conductive rope, or the boom will sag. Better yet, change out the small 1 1/2 inch boom to a heavy gauge 2 inch boom like is on the stock TA34M and the Classic 33 beams. Also adding the 12/17 meter conversion (a second driven element tuned for 12M/17M) will give you two additional bands. But it is just a rotatable dipole. If you want true beam performance on 12 and 17, and add 40 meters you will have to go to the "Pro" series and spend a lot more $.
