OK to start with. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
What can I say? RG58 is lossy, and poorly shielded. It can net you some decent SWR, and does a good enough job on CB. I have seen it used on 10M as well with similar results. This is best suited to use with CB that is run legally, and will not experience much vibration. The RL-259s are extremely low quality crimp on type that easily separate from the conductor. The shielding permits a good deal of RF interference through the feed line. This is particularly notable in under dash mobile applications. IF you are going to use this in a mobile install, keep this cable away from ANY electrical noise sources or you WILL get a humming in your radio. All in all, it is a good cable to whet the appetite for the radio hobby, but will leave the owner sorely wanting quickly. Better off to buy a good quality, high shield, RG8x, RG8u, LMR400 etc... Even for low power applications, just to get the improved shielding.
I replaced this cable with a custom built RG8x and eliminated inductive noise in my radio. RX is improved, and reports from other operators claim my TX is improved as well. My RG-58 is hanging on the garage wall waiting for a friend with a bad coax. I don't plan on using it again.
