Fair Old School Rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Well I owned one of these rigs several years ago & it was just an OK rig for 6 meters. The biggest issue was it has no squelch so that when the bands are not active you can not squelch out the noise. It talked OK with the stock hand microphone & it drove a small 50 watt 6 meter brick that I had OK as well so it got me out of the noise.Front end was wide open so you heard just about everything for 20 megs above & below you when the band was rocking.A good DSP speaker like the ClearSpeech would be a BIG help to get rid of some of the white noise. It's an old school rig but was fun to play with for a while.

Simple, solid 6m rig. Time Owned: unknown months.
The HT-106 is the only VHF entry in Tokyo Hy-Power's "Series 100" monobanders, which were made in the late '80s. (The other rigs were for the HF bands.) The rig puts out 10 watts, SSB or CW, and covers 50-52 mhz. There is no provision for AM or FM. The rig is a little bigger than a Ten Tec Scout, and weighs about seven pounds, so it's like a small base rig or an oversized mobile. The HT-106 has a bright yellow/green LED display, which is easy to read on the base. I haven't tried one of these mobile. The rig has a hot little receiver, and outstanding transmit audio with lots of punch. The only QRM fighting tool is an RIT control, unfortunately, but unlike HF, this really is rarely critical on 6. The stock SSB filter is excellent, but CW through it is way too wide. You might want to try to find one with the optional 250hz narrow CW filter. An optional noise blanker (model HN-100) is available for them and is quite effective, and Tokyo Hy-Power still has some in stock. I had no problem importing one for my HT-106. The mounting bracket was also optional, as was a power supply/speaker. If you use the internal speaker, which is on the bottom, a wire stand lifts the rig to make it easy to hear. If you are looking for good, simple little six meter rig, this one is a pretty good choice.
