| Update: Still very satisfied |

Update: 4/4/22…
Now have used this product for over three years through many long contests. No problems whatsoever, and drives my two IC-7300’s very well with many compliments on my audio. I bought the ear pads from Brainwavz as suggested by KX2T below, and they are an improvement over the original ones, which weren’t too bad as is…very comfortable over my ears. Never any problems with any Heil product I’ve had over the years. Like anything else, if you don’t abuse them, they’ll last a long time. Still highly recommended, especially for Icoms, over any other dynamic element mic.
—————————————————————————————-
I purchased this to replace a Heil ProSet Elite-6, which provided good service. However, when I sold my Icom IC-7600 and kept my IC-7300, I found that the dynamic "6" element, with its' lower output, wasn't sufficiently driving the 7300. See my review of the Heil ICM mic (iC electret condenser element) compared to the PR-781 (dynamic element), so I'll keep this to a comparison of the two headsets.
Before the Elite-6, I had the original ProSet Plus, with its' two switchable mic elements, HC-4 and HC-5. It performed and held up well, but was rather clunky and heavy. The Elite-6 was more adjustable and comfortable, and the earpads fit on the ears, not over them. But the main reason to switch was for the iC element...more compatible for the 7300 audio input. The ProSet iC is 3.2 oz lighter, and the earpads fit over the ears, not on them...more to my liking. They seal out the noise, and don't pinch my glasses between my ears and head. Also, the mic boom can swivel at its' base up and out of the way if you're not using it (like for CW), something the Elite-6 can't do. The boom itself is adjustable on both headsets. Although the Elite-6 seems heavier constructed with swivel earphone sides and a heavier padded headband, the ProSet iC looks to be quite durable. The speakers sound about the same, and they both have the Phase Reversal switch. It also costs less than the Elite. Overall a good purchase...highly recommended, especially for the IC-7300. |

| INTERMITTENT VOX |
Time Owned: 3 to 6 months. |
| Used on my IC-9700 and IC-7610...When on SSB VOX-VOICE, the microphone cuts out intermittently. Power off & on, sometimes worked to restore. Followed help ideas on the HEIL sight...Tried everything suggested, ferrites, added ground wire, etc., also radio's VOX sensitivity and gain settings. Sometimes audio (on VOX) worked for a number of days, other times failed after a few hours. Could no longer be relied on for CONTEST OPS. On the ICOM GROUPS boards I discovered other hams with the same issue and corresponded with them trying to resolve our problem which was not caused by the ICOM radios! Replaced the HEIL headset with a YAMAHA-500 (for 1/3 the price of the HEIL) and no further issues for past 6-months. Of note, one other ham had the same issue with a "different model" HEIL headset model. Heil's advertisement that this product is for ICOM radios, is sad. No longer the company they used to be...why else would they have all the trouble-shooting ideas on their sight and blaming radio manufacturers? |

| Pretty Good Set |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
Tried these for the phase reversal and what it might do to bring out a cw note. It does help. Probably about enough to be worth it. The ear pads I didn't like. I fixed that by managing to refit a set of replacement pads for a sony mdr-xb500. It was kinda a pain but was definitely worth the trouble. They are now 10x more comfortable and do fit over the ear with the new pads. If any one needs any tips on the install or a pic of what they will look like when done look me up.

| Works Great! |

These boom-mic headsets are the best I have tried so far, have a pair of Yamaha CM500's that are not bad plus for almost 1/3rd the price are an excellent value. Its a perfect match for the IC7300 or 7610's mic input, now I can use vox with ease plus they sound good on rag chew plus double duty for DX. Now if Heil can only get a replacement for the Proset HC6 mic element that would give it that old HC5 sound they would have most all radio's covered, nothing sounds as good as the ole HC5 when your hearing it on a long path signal during DXing. The IC makes a huge difference on any Icom and the Headsets are best for HF+6 meter radios. BTW I did try the Pro 6 set on my 7610 no mater what I did it sounded flat and you had to drive the snot out of the mic gain plus vox operation was sub par and that was when I changed the menu setting to work with a dynamic element. I will say that the current production doesn't seem as sturdy as my old Heil boom/headset but after 20 years and a rebuild a good friend now uses it still.
There is one BIG issue with the headset part, although the audio is almost perfect for voice communications the ear pads suck, when wearing these for more than an hour you must take a break, take them off cause they start to really bother your ears. I am trying and ear pad made by Brainwave, the pads are a perforated replacement for a pair of AKG headphones, they seem to take care of some of the issues but the jury is still out how the long range comfort will be. By contest time I'll let you know but Heil better take note cause his supplier has sold him a great audio package but piss poor mechanical design! |

| Works for me! |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I bought this headset second-hand, but practically new, and it has been in almost daily use on my IC-7410 for over 12 months and never missed a beat.
Proset into the AD-1-iC with the Heil hand-switch to tx!
I'm not hauling the headset from pillar to post and it hangs on a wide hook attached to my desk however, so far, the workmanship quality is as it was out of the box.
No issues with any wires degrading, plastic pieces breaking or any other such problem which seems to have befallen some.
Took a little time to get the audio set-up to MY liking and have had the odd very nice comment regarding the audio quality so those settings can be left alone and not fiddled with.
Would I buy one again well absolutely without a moments hesitation and I'm a tight-wad!
Of course this is just my humble opinion! |

| Great audio on Flex-6600M |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I recently received my long-awaited Flex 6600M that I had put a deposit down on at Dayton (Xenia) last year. I have a ham friend who lives across town and teaches, among other things, audio production at the local university. He, obviously, has a very good ear for audio fidelity. Well, to make a long story short, over a period of two days we did on-the-air tests of virtually every HF microphone that I have, ranging from a cheap Heil HM-5 to an expensive Heil Pro 7 headset and including a TT 709 and a Heil Goldline (GM-5, with HC5 element). And, the winner was, you guessed it, the Heil ProSet-IC. I know that this mic is made especially for Icom rigs (bought for a 756Pro, back in the day), but it works FB with my new Flex.
In case you are interested the ranking given me by my friend for all the mics tested was as follows, in order of best to worst:
1. Heil ProSet-IC,
2. Heil Pro7,
3. Heil Goldline,
4. TT 709, and
5. Heil HM-5.
After these results, I'm tempted to sell my Heil Pro 7. However, it does feel more comfortable on the head for long periods, so I may keep it for contesting.
So, my conclusion is that you can't go wrong with this headset, even if you don't own an Icom, as long as your rig is able to supply the correct bias voltage. I have used this headset with an Elecraft K3, for instance, and got FB reports. |

| Sounds good quality build average |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I had written a more detailed review but it was just too much to read, the quality of the audio from this heil headset is very good, I’ve had problems and it all leads to bad solder connections with this headset. Reading about other heil equipment they are plagued with solder connection problems. I spent $165 on this from Elecraft when I purchased my KX3. I went by the heil name and it was being sold by Elecraft.
On E Ham reviews there are 13 reviews on this headset which rates as 4.8, on the Yamaha CM 500 there are 52 reviews and a rated 4.7.
The Yamaha CM 500 is $49.95 on the W2ENY website other websites sell it for $60. Go to E ham reviews and the rating of heil is not as high as you would expect the name to carry. If you buy this headset warm-up a soldering iron. |

| Comfort |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
For Christmas I received a HEIL PSE 6 IC headset. I have been using them as often as possible to see how comfortable the headphones are. Comfort has been an issue with this HEIL headset.
I also have Sennheiser HD280 headphones I am using as a comparison.
Both headphones have nice receive audio but the larger full over ear cups on the Sennheiser 280HD are better at reducing room noise and more comfortable for extended use.
The HD280 phones don’t press anywhere on the ear but cover the ear. The full coverage just physically reduces the local noise and prevents the discomfort from even the modest pressure on the ear I feel with the HEIL set. It is similar to putting the flat of your hand over your ears vs cupping your hand over your ears.
The pads on the HEIL PSE IC are not as deep as the 280HD’s. The 280HD’s have an oval shape the HEIL have a round shape.
Other factors being equal the HEIL PSE 6 IC could be very simply be improved by using a deeper set of pads better shaped to cover the human ear.
Design the cup so there is no contact with the ear. I can imagine a larger person would find it difficult to use the HEIL set for long periods.
The transmit audio with the HEIL PSE IC is great. An aftermarket set of deeper pads would be nice.
All things considered I still think the HEIL PSE 6 IC headset is a pretty good value. They do exactly what HEIL advertises.

| I bought the Pro-set eleite IC a couple of months ago. |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
| After a couple of weeks it developed a loud Hum. I tried everything know to me to rectify the problem with no avail. Naturally I wasn't pleased. I wrote to Bob Heil and he initially wasn't able to provide any solutions. He then asked me to return the headset which I promptly did. The next I heard from Bob was he sent me a replacement headset after being unable to fault the returned set. What better service can you get than that. I am extremely happy with the new headset (No Hum) and the impeccable service from Bob Heil. Congratulations Bob your service and product's are second to none. |
