A lovely vintage receiver Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Found one in near mint conditions and seldom used. This receiver has very low noise floor (almost like my insuperable Collins R-392/URR), very good selectivity for AM broadcasting stations, and excellent sensitivity. It works well both with its telescopic antenna and my magnetic loop MLA-30+ coupled to the rx antenna with a small coil. Very fun to use, it is a pleasure to listen with this receiver for hours, because it has not the background noise of many PLL receivers.

A great one off Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Got this radio for just 90 UK pounds sterling.
Had to replace all the carbon composition resistors
as they had gone out of spec.
A bit of readjustment in places.
This radio works using the Wadley loop, and is the only portable to use it.
And it is the best portable radio I have used for the shortware bands, and great on SSB.
Not only that it draws just 25mA from 6 X D cells. So will go on for nearly ever, on a set of batteries.

Classic Communications Portable Receiver Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I was lucky to obtain a good used one, about 10 years ago, for just $A50 -- just see what they go for now one-bay! I first saw this set back in 1976 and fell in love with it. Alas, it was just too expensive at the time. The set is a real classic in more ways than one. Very good (analog) readout (for the time) and excellent sensitivity. Indeed, I sometimes prefer it to our R-390A. Ours comes with a near-useless FM tuner. The sound is far from 'hi-fi', but it will do. If you can get one of these sets at a reasonable price, don't hesitate!

Best piece of History Time Owned: more than 12 months.
A shack is not complete without this receiver. A great piece of radio history to have. My is used almost daily for broadcast bands. Fun too use and built like a tank
