Review Summary For : ADAT ADT-200A
Reviews: 5MSRP: 3,750
Description:
The receiving portion uses a 14bit A/D converter which offers a S/N ratio of 74dB over the half Nyquist bandwith of 36.86MHz. After the subsequent decimation, a blocking dynamic range of 120dB will be achieved. The ADT-200A uses the latest generation of high performance DSP manufactured by Analog Devices Inc. capable of up to 2 billion instructions per second leaving room for future options.

The power amplifier is equipped with high voltage MOS-FET’s capable of producing 50W within the range of 1.8MHz to 30MHz with an efficiency of up to 70%. Adaptive predistortion delivers an undistorted transmission signal, which is a first in amateur radio application.

The ADT-200A has a front end, along with four parallel receivers and can be enhanced with a VHF/UHF module as an option. Eight independent VFO’s provide many split band operations. Further design highlights include an audio recorder, capable of recording up to 1 hour, an automatic fine tuning for SSB, an antenna scope which allows measurement of the complex antenna impedance and an optional Web server module.

The menu selections of the four receivers and the transmitter is accomplished with only three knobs and 18 push buttons, providing the same functionalities as other high end transceivers. Operator selections are supported by two high resolution graphic displays.

The ADT-200A transceiver will be available in Q1’08 in limited quantities.

Maturing Time Owned: more than 12 months.
With latest FW and SW this rig is maturing. Hans has made improvements that enhance ease of use and functionality. Not easy for contesting but my favorite casual operating rig.

great digital transceiver Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Finally I received my ADT-200A and so far the first tests were very positive. I was able to compare on my Optibeams with my K3, FT-1000D and IC-7800. In my opinion the ADT-200A plays in the same class. And the modulation reports, which I received, are all excellent and in no way inferior to the K3. It takes, however, some getting used to operating the ADT-200A in comparison to conventional machines but all buttons and keys are very clearly arranged so that navigation is easy. Handling the ADT-200A can almost be done intuitively.
But only every day use will show whether the ADT-200A's quality is superior to my other transceivers.

A fine digital transceiver Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Since July 2008 I owned an ADAT ADT-200A. I tested the transceiver on my Optibeam and it works very good. It has a clear audio and the filters works precise and sharp. The reports on the band are always good. One of the best QSOs was Ecuador with 50 watt. Also the predistortion of the TX signal works well. It is a good digital transceiver without the need of a pc. I hope that within the next firmware, Hans implement some new features. He does a fine job !

Not your traditional transceiver Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Since two weeks i have an ADAT TRX on my desk. I was testing a lot and did the rig compare to my other equipment using an A/B switch to switch the antenna and the audio at the same time.

The new transceiver works very well. I am impressed by the very clean RX and TX audio. Compared to traditional RX the ADAT does have a clearly better S/N ratio when the received signal is around 10 dB over the noise.

You get a lot of controls like TX and RX EQ, bandwith controls, 4 VFO's and there is a very accurate S-meter, which also displays in dBm and dBuV. The power is adjustable between 0.1 and 50 watt.

Hans is still working at the software, right now he is working at the noise reduction implementation in a new and different way compared to other rigs. Expect more revolutionare functions with new firmware versions in the future.

Now there are 10 units built. A new lot is in production now.

A very fine transceiver with a revolutionary concept Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I'm proud to own one of the first ADT-200A. I could test the transceiver in the last days and it's really revolutionary. Some options don't work at the moment, but the main thing, the receiver works really great. This are not very technical statements, but all technical datas are on the webpage of HB9CBU (www.adat.ch).
It needs some further development in userinterface but this concept is really worth to have a look on it.
