Solid Rig, No problems Time Owned: unknown months.
The Kenwood TS-140S was my first "new" rig. After several years of the FT-101E, not having to retune the rig to change bands was a real pleasure. Kenwood had this radio in production for quite a long time...perhaps 6 years or so. I had absolutely no problems with mine. The radio didn't seem to have the problems that plagued the 440. It's a little larger and heavier than my FT-840, and in a similar class, except that the 140 comes with FM. They have tended to be a little pricey on the used market. My only complaint was the little slider controls on the right side of the radio. They tended to be a little imprecise, and more difficult to use than other types of controls. I would recommend this radio to anyone wanting a solid radio without the bells and whistles.
