Excellent Antenna (I mean Flagpole!) Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
In the course of my 57 years of hamming I've owned several different verticals. Until I bought this Zerofive flagpole vertical, I thought the best I'd owned was the Cushcraft / Hustler 6BTV. Given enough radials, it was a fine antenna. However, we recently moved into a new development with quite restrictive HOA/CC&R rules. That means NO outside antennas. Blustery winds here in the high desert meant I couldn't put a 6BTV in PVC like I'd seen other folks do - it simply would not survive.

I got permission from our HOA for a 20 foot flagpole (yeah, this model is 24 feet but who is gonna come out and measure it) and got to work installing. Digging down 48 inches in anything but sandy soil is tough. My 13 year old son and I got down 40 inches and a diameter of 15 inches. We used an alternate base install - 5/8" threaded rods coupled to the supplied "J rods". Ten+ bags of cement mixed in a wheelbarrow and we had the base installed.

The vertical tubing went together smooth as silk, thanks to using some of that SS-30 Jetlube compound. Raising the 24 foot tall pole was a piece of cake - this old codger can do it unassisted.

So far I have ten radials installed. I used a DX Engineering radial plate under the flagpole base - makes it lots easier to do radials. I'll put down more radials when the weather warms up a bit in the spring. I used a ton of "lawn stakes" to hold 'em down in the grass.

My rig is an Elecraft K3/KPA500/KAT500 (max 550 watts). I run my coax through the wall to a KF7P Metalwerks Entry Panel which has a couple Morgan Systems lightening arrestors. From there I go through a Balun Designs Isolation transformer and then 100 feet of RG-213 coax out to the Zerofive-supplied Un-Un.

So, how does it play? In a word - GREAT!!! My tuner finds a 1.7:1 or better match on all bands, 40-6 meters. Even without firing up the amp, I have no problem making contacts on CW, PSK31, and FT8. DX? No problem - I call CQ on FT8 and have DX stations calling me! Yeah, I'm sure the Idaho location might be helpful there! Anyway, I've been very, very happy with this antenna, and the neighbors are none the wiser about it actually being an antenna.

I considered buying a remote tuner. But the price for a 600-watt tuner is out of sight. Some calculations done based on my coax type, length of coax, and the frequency shows that at 100 watts from the K3, I'm only loosing 14 additional watts over what I'd loose with a tuner at the base. I'll keep my $500, thank you very little!

Still to be done besides adding more radials in the grass is to drive in a bunch of ground rods. Need one at the base of the antenna, another one at the entry panel and then..... a series of 15 of them to form a "perimeter ground" from the entry panel to the other side of the house where the utility panel entry point is, just to keep everything on the up and up as far as the N.E.C. This will be a major PITA and will have to be farmed out to an electrician or a handyman, 'cause this old guy isn't gonna be driving in 17 eight foot long copper rods in this Idaho soil.

like it even more today Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had it now for 2 years, this antenna is fantastic and works. Since then I have gotten WAS and DXCC here at this QTH with it, now I am using it for FT 8 and it really shines on all bands including 30m. On 20m I don't need to use the tuner and 80m even works on FT8. With poor propagation that is occuring now I still make SSB contacts across the US and well into SA and Europe with a 100w, it just takes patience.
This antenna is perfect for HOA restricted properties plus people will enjoy your patriotism.

After moving into an HOA I sought permission to install a 24' flagpole. I purchased the 24' with a folding base. Install was fine, 10 bags of concrete and a rebar system to secure the antenna. It has held up fine to 65 mph winds so far and the neighbors like it. I have twenty 24' radials and a MFJ remote tuner at the base. In crappy band conditions I have made DX contacts to Ceuta, Costa Rica, and Slovenia along with contacts across the continent including the WARC bands in just the few times I've had time to get on the air. Seems to be a quality product just wished it wasn't so expensive.

NICE ANTENNA Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Moved to our new home, but having to deal with HOA is, of course, a compromise. Got approval to put up the 24 foot flagpole, which now covers 6 through 40 meters. And with my LDG tuner can even get on 80. Easy to install, well except for digging a 4 foot deep whole in a rock field.......LOL.

This is a high quality antenna and looks great flying Old Glory. And it works surpisingly well. Have made contacts all across the US, Japan, Hawaii, SA over just a couple of hours. Actually pretty quiet for a vertical too.

So if you do decide to buy that dream house for the wife and it comes with an HOA, I believe this is a great option.

Great Stealth Antenna Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I love this antenna. It arrived quickly from ZeroFive Antennas and went together without any issues. This antenna has been placed in my front yard located in a very reasonable HOA. I must admit i did get approval for a regular 26 ft vertical but this antenna just blends in better with the local community. Tom really does provide a first class service from start to finish. I would highly recommend both ZeroFive Antennas and the 24ft Flagpole antenna.

33 foot flagpole Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Tom really has out done himself. This antenna has worked through good and bad conditions without a hitch. I have owned mine for two years now and it stands up better than any antenna I have put by far. Small foot print. Just remember to put out at least 30 or 40 radials 30 feet long. You will be good to go.

Great Vertical! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
The vertical is very simple to mount. I put it on a 7 ft. hi Wood fence by strapping to one of the metal posts. I feed it with about 60 feet of coax. I use three slightly drooping radials. I get almost flat SWR on all bands using an MFJ Versa Tuner III. Boy, do I work DX! After 60 years of hamming and trying all kinds of skyhooks..I like this one the best. Yep, I do have good equipment and power (one kw with an Alpha 87A). Tom is a great fellow and very helpful in understanding his design! Allen W5TCH Dallas, Texas

Top shelf antenna and owner Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I don't know which is better, the quality of the antenna or the customer service. As a new ham I wanted to get my signal out there and see what happens. I have made contacts coast to coast, HI, Virgin Islands all under less than ideal band conditions. 27 radials 10 feet long, antenna less than 12 feet from my house. Customer service is top notch, can't say enough great things about the owner!!!! Called with questions and couldn't be more helpful.

Great Solution, Tough Antenna Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I checked this new antenna out at Dayton. Extraordinary tough materials used, will easily handle both a fine specimen of Old Glory and a 40 meter signal at the same time! Tom builds amazing antennas - simple to assemble, and they seem to be able to handle whatever nature sends to them. While I have the 33 foot model, if my CCR posse gets more feisty or I have to move to another subdivision, I know that this will be my first purchase! Remember radials and the balun and tuner, and away you go !
