When it's good it's good. When it's bad..... Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've got two of these little basic 6M handies. And I have to say that it seems that Palstar's quality control could be atrocious back when these were made.
If you get a good one then it'll work a treat but if you get a bad one you may be in and out of it like a badger down a hole.

One of my two has worked perfectly from day one (OK they were both second hand but neither appeared to have ever been opened) The other has had so many niggling faults, all of which were due to poor standards of manufacture.
This one, as it happens appeared to be brand new and unused as it was still sealed in the original manufacturers bags but it was sold as secondhand complete with nicad pack (needed a boot to kick it into functioning) and two dry cell cases.
Like I say, the good one works a treat and with 5 watts via a V2000 co-linear I can access the only local(ish) repeater, GB3FX which is about 50 miles from me and certainly not via a good path.
Transmit audio is OK but typically that of oldish handies by any manufacturer. Receive audio is surprisingly good considering the size of the internal minispeaker. The programming is a bit of a tedious struggle but certainly no worse than my Alinco 2/30 HT.
As I say though when they work oktyhey're worth having. But when not then be prepared to get in and fiddle. So far I have had low TX audio (resistor intermittently shorting on the screening), intermittent squelch (yet another resistor shorting on the screening), intermittent TX out (dry joint on the PA transistor leads and also an intermittant short from a screening connection to the pcb). All of these intermittent faults were a bugger to trace as some of them vanished when the thing was out of the case.

If you come across one of these (they're regulars on ebay) be warned that even if the display shows you're transmitting you're very possibly not if theres one of these intermittent problems in play.
Always check the output into a power meter or swr bridge and not listening on another rx since even with the PA non-operational there's enough driver stage power to take a nearby rx to S9 plus.
Overall I like them and they seem quite bounceable and will come up smiling if you do drop the beast.
