Great for qrp use Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have had the MFJ 886 for almost a year now. I run qrp Mizuho radios. I like to backpack these. This 886 performs well giving me the exact transmitting freq readout. My Mizuho radios runs 2 watts qrp and are in handy talkie form. The battery charging on the 886 lasts a long time without worry of charging it frequently. Five stars for this 886!

Great Station test equipment Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Recommend highly! One of best investments made in test equipment for Station! Now in use for 11 years! Assisted data collection on my Antenna testing. Used in shack and at Antenna farm. Perfect results when used testing SWR and fequency sweeping each new design of antenna(long-wire/yagi/Quad/GP). Most important test equipment when used together with MFJ-209 for Frequency/SWR. Allowed to actually see 1st, 2nd, 3rd harmonics fequency while sweeping; confirmed SWR and Frequency results on harmonic frequency when tuning Antenna. Case well-made; Comes with electric adapter and rechargeable batteries. It is quite a deal! Recommend: Buy it!

VK3YAZ wrote his review some time ago. Don't know if he has the same opinion but I subscribe fully to his comments already stated.

What surprised me most was the quality of the device. Not light-weight plastic but solid metal. No dings or scratches and no loose parts. Wonder where it was manufactured.

I bought it to use as a digital frequency meter for my HW-8 and HW-9 QRP rigs. Also a back up for my OHR100A which does have the matching OHR digital display unit.

The frequency displayed is spot-on! I haven't used it for any other purposes. Just the digital frequency aspect and, so far, I am delighted with it.

If you have QRP rigs lacking accurate frequency readability, this guy is great.

Hope it holds up. Plan on making some sort of enclosure that would provide more support as I place it next to the transceivers.

It was with some caution that I purchased the 886 counter knowing the reputation of MFJ for poorly manufactured products. However my fears were unfounded as it would seem that this item was produced outside and quality is good. It has a robust metal case with good positive controls and the internal board is very neat. Likes: small size, portable, long battery life, easy to read 8 digit display. The included telescopic antenna with BNC connector allows the unit to sit next to a Tx as a monitor. The signal level bargraph makes it useful for quick tune ups of oscillators without need for a direct connection. Dislikes: the display sits proud of the case and is prone to scratches, the lower frequency limit of 1MHz precludes its use for audio work. A backlight would be useful sometimes.
The quoted sensitivity appears to be met (at least to 1GHz) but after a couple of years of trouble free operation I found I needed to recalibrate the frequency, but this was no drama. On principle, I find it difficult to award 5/5 to an MFJ product but this is an exception. This is a very useful addition to the shack and test bench.
