Review Summary For : ADS-SR1 Simplex Repeater
Reviews: 4MSRP: 89
Description:
A simplex repeater records incoming transmissions and retransmits them on the same frequency. This has the effect of doubling the time required to transmit a message, but while a traditional repeater typically costs thousands of dollars and might be semi-portable at best, a simplex repeater can be set up with a single handheld radio and operated from batteries. This makes it perfect for disaster response, home or campground use, and any place where radio range needs to be extended but the cost and complexity of a traditional repeater can’t be justified. Additionally, the unique ‘say again’ repeat-on-demand feature of the ADS-SR1 allows it to be operated in silent mode, repeating transmissions only when requested. This can be used to repeat a missed transmission or to check for missed calls, even hours or days after the last transmission was heard by the repeater.

Great Controller For Simplex Radios Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have a VHF Simplex Repeater that I use a laptop with the software call Parrot and it work great. I added a UHF Motorola M-130 radio using the ADS-SR1 on the same dual band antenna. I am very please with it. Very easy to wire up and no need for a battery. The radio will power up the unit. Very small, The size of a pack of cigarette.

Great Product, FANTASTIC service. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is a fully functional and high quality simplex repeater with upgradeable firmware and advanced features like voicemail and others. Over 200 seconds of recorded audio including stored voicemail etc. All custom code on a Motorola microprocessor.

The company has fantastic service. Imagine: calling a company with a question, being immediately connected with a knowledgable person (in the UNITED STATES!) and having your question answered in 3 minutes. You forget what real service is like these days.

I discovered a bug in the recent firmware which disabled a feature I was interested in. I emailed the company and they tested it out the next day, identified the bug, and sent me a new firmware version within 3 days which I uploaded to my unit, fixing the issue.

As you can see: overall, an excellent company to deal with. Highly recommended, and great products too.

Very handy, unique product Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Had this a couple of years now, and have used it for support comms during organized hikes among the remote Tuscarora mountains of central PA. All that is needed is this device (about the size of a pack of cigarettes), an HT, and a cable that you can build (or buy from Argent) that interfaces via the HT's speaker-mic connection. The ADS-SR1 runs for days (I believe) on a set of AA batteries, and the HT will, of course, run for as long as it has power.

The ADS-SR1 is programmed strictly through touch-tone codes, so setting it up takes a bit of quiet time with the manual. But once set up, it is easy to program remotely, and has effective security/authentication to discourage unauthorized changes. ID'er is built in, so there's no worries about meeting FCC operating requirements.

We hike the ADS-SR1/HT setup to a nice peak or ridgetop with exposure to our operating region, and attach a roll-up pocket antenna to a tree branch. There's several ways that this device can be set to operate, but we use "repeat on demand." The ADS-SR1 listens and records every transmission heard by the HT, but the way we set it up is that it only repeats what it last heard IF you transmit a touch-tone "*" (star). This way, if you call a station and it doesn't respond, you can have the mountaintop HT re-send the transmission by pressing *. Or, if someone is breaking your receiver's squelch but you can't make out the message, you can send a * and get a clear repeat from the automated station at the high spot.

The audio quality from this thing is excellent, and it's been completely reliable for me. It fits our needs handily, and is so light and small that it could be carried to the peak of Mount Everest if need be. If you have a need for simplex repeating, the ADS-SR1 is an excellent platform and I recommend it highly.
