Thumbs up! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I *just* bought a converted AL-80A from Lou (it's been on my bench less than 1 hour), and I will be the first to tell you, it is predictable and repeatable in it's tune-up, and does exactly what Lou says it will do! Power increases quickly as you increase input. I tuned it up using my keyer at about 50% duty cycle (it's a relatively safe way to tune up an amp) and when I got to about 50 watts input, that was enough! I could have increased it even more, but it was not necessary. Cosmetics are nice, inside was clean when I installed the tube, and honestly, I don't see anything that I'm unhappy with! Lou even gave me some free lessons via e-mail! Would I buy from Lou again? Would I recommend anyone else buying from Lou! Yes to both questions- absolutely 100%! -KR4WM

Stunning!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I had two legal limit amps and an AL80b. I really liked the AL80b, It would do 1kw ssb and was very reliable. I've had it for 3 Years, bought it new. I had never been successful on 6 meters and started to get the itch. I had a bad experience, in the past, with a solid state amp which i was told needed modification ( the 375 watt amp was new). when I got it back from another conversion guy it never worked again. I heard about Lou, W1QJ and called him. We spoke for 45 minutes about what he does and how he does it to convert hf amps to 6m. lou will talk your head off if you let him, he loves doing these conversions, and goes into great detail. Well, he convinced me and I shipped off my AL80b. about two weeks later He shipped it back, complete with a description of what was done, tuning procedure and parts list/schematic of the change. I couldn't wait to get it on the air. I Just put up a m2 6m5x, which replaced my A50-5s. With 15 watts drive=250 watts output, 40 watts drive=1kw output, and 70 watts drive=1300 watts out!!! Incredible!! I'm scared to try max drive of 85 watts! Tonite 5 was open and I worked EN08 (ND), DN47 (MT) and CO82 (BC). I can't describe how happy I am with Lou's work! and the cosmetic's a execellent also, this amp really kicks butt on 6m, I can't wait for more sunspots! What a great experience and affordable conversion this has been, Thanks Lou...

Reasonable cost POWER on 6!!!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Want some SERIOUS power on 6 meters but don't have a big bank account for one of the "Big dollar" amps? Contact Lou.

Lou has all the parts, Service, And advice you need to go QRO on six meters.

My SB 220 will do full legal limit on six meters, I have been running it (Loafing it really) along at about 1250 watts output (Bird 43 peak reading wattmeter), With only 75 watts drive power.

Very competent ham Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I am happy to see that King Conversions reviews are being run. My story might be of interest to readers in that it shows how helpful Lou can be in
converting amps. Several years ago I was helping a friend out who had attempted a conversion of an SB-220 to 6 meters from a magazine article. The article had him doing another tap on the original tank coil, still using most of the original component parts. We were getting about 300 watts out, and the amp was unstable. I called Lou since I knew he had a lot of experience in getting QRO on 6 meters. Lou told me we would never get full
performance with a job that was full of short cuts. He uses a plate tuning cap that is appropriate for 6 meters, all new dedicated input circuit, parasitic suppressors, etc. Then Lou told me to bring the amp up to his shop one evening, and in only a few hours he did his magic on the amp, and when we left we were getting 900
watts out. That amp was used by K2NJ to work KH6 around 2001, one of only a couple stations to get through that afternoon. Lou knows amplifiers inside and out and is not only an extremely generous guy with his knowledge, he is 100 % honest as well.

Excellent SB-221 conversion Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I met Lou in '91 and knew of his love of QRO amps but nothing of his R&D into converting amps for 6m. Per chance, while hunting for an amp to convert myself, I ran into Lou at Dayton. Next thing I'm the owner of an SB-221 putting out legal limit at less than 100w input. Fast turnaround, great rep from prior customers, stable tuned circuit performance and great value. When you need to make sure those weak, short-lived 6m E-skip signals hear you on the other end, King Conversions has the answer.

OUTSTANDING QUALITY Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have known Lou for almost 20 years. He is one of the few electronics technicians still around. He has buit King Creations on honesty, integrity and quality electronics construction. Each amp is tested on air before it goes out the door. I have known him to travel long distances to make a repair or adjustment, if needed. He piloted the conversion of SB-200 amps to 6M to give those folks not needing a full KW and not wanting to spend hi dollars a chance at QRO. If your looking for a quality amp conversion - KING CONVERSIONS is the only way to go.

Excellent Work Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I had my SB-220 converted by KM1H and it was a mess with all kinds of problems plus horrible cosmetics. Contacted KM1H explaining the issues and he kept hanging up on me. Please read full review on KM1H. I then contacted Lou at King Conversions and he agreed to look at it and after checking it out, said it needed to be completely done over. I decided to let him repair the amp. He turned the amp into a like new SB-220 and it worked great with 100w in 1200w out. Lou is very easy to contact and will always give you quality work. I highly recommend King Conversions.
