For it's day, a good amplifier Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I owned mine for a couple of years, before I replaced it with an Alpha 374A. I truly enjoyed the Gonset, though it's likely that those trying to operate SSB anywhere within 6 or 7 kc of my operating frequency, wouldn't say the same. It's not the cleanest signal on the market. But, again, for it's day, it was pretty darned good. I was able to drive mine with a variety of radios, and it easily handled 100+ watts input. The 4-572B finals were good workhorse tubes, and luckily, are still readily available. This amplifier never failed me, and took plenty of abuse, (2:1 swr, 140 watts drive, a few times) and like a Timex, it "Took a licking, and kept on ticking".
It is simple to work on, and the factory recommendation is to not concern yourself with neutralization of the finals, when replacing them. If you are looking for a solid 1000 watts out, 80-10M, and are budget conscious, consider a Gonset GSB201 MkIII. But make sure it is a MKIII or MkIV, you really don't want the one with the 811A's, the power just isn't there in them.
