Collins Repair Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Peter, K2LRC, has rebuilt a 75S3-C and A 32s-1 and A 32s-3 for me great work and great guy to deal with fast turn around. He is a one man shop and is well stocked with professional Test gear and he has many years of experience. I have been very happy the work that he performed and the rigs are working well.
Would recommend him to any one for the great work he does.

Expert S-line Repair Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have known Peter (K2LRC) for about 10 years. In fact I purchased my first S-line piece of equipment from him, it was a 75S3C. He has rebuilt and repaired much of my S-line equipment. This has included two KWM2As, 2PM2 supplies and a couple of 516F-2 power supplies, a 75S3C and other pieces. He performed the service upgrades that were put out in the Collins service bulletins. I once brought him a 51S1 receiver with a crushed case. It was damaged when shipped to me from Sweden. It looked new when he repaired and restored it. I cannot imagine how he was able to do the body work on the case.

I have purchased a number of other S-line pieces from him and few Collins microphones. I know for a fact that the pieces he sells are electrically perfect. The pieces he takes in and repairs, restores and sells are pristine.

The great thing about Peter is that he is available for advice and he has given me blocks of instruction on how to use my S-line equipment. He is very knowledgeable on all aspects of the S- lines. I call him and ask advice about the latest items people build for S-lines, and modifications that some hams do to the S line. He gives me an honest opinion on these mods and usually tells me to save my money.

I am bringing him a 30L1 this week that I damaged for his expert repair. I screwed up loading it. I know it will be perfect when I get it back. I called him as soon as I damaged the 30L1. He told me what I did wrong and told me what was likely damaged, and told me to drop it off at his shop. He calmly talked me through the correct loading procedure which is slightly different from the Collins manual so I do not damage another 30L1.

If you have any S-line gear that is in need of repair you will not be disappointed with the work performed by K2LRC

Excellent work and wonderful customer service! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Back in the mid 60's, when I was a 14 year old with a newly minted Novice license, a $20 Ameco transmitter and a bottom-of-the-line National NC-105 receiver, the Collins S-Line were the radios a kid could only dream of owning. It's kinda like the old Rodney Dangerfield joke "Thirty years ago I dreamed of owning a Cadillac. Today I finally achieved my dream. I bought a 30 year old Cadillac."

Last summer I was given a Collins 32S-1 transmitter and decided to acquire the whole S-Line for my shack. Over the next few months I found all the units needed to complete the S-Line from several sources, including eBay.

After reading Peter Wittenberg's reviews in this forum, I decided he was the guy to take these old gems and make sure they were in good shape before I put them on the air.

I have to tell you this has been a great experience. Peter is not only a Collins radio expert, he is a real gentleman: honest and forthright. As importantly, he is a pleasure to work with. During every step of the way he kept me informed on the progress of each piece as he tackled them (receiver, transmitter, linear amp, power supply and station control). His prices were reasonable for the amount of work he put into the rebuilding and restoration of each unit.

I appreciated his honesty in telling me that original 32S-1 transmitter was toast and not worth the money it would take to rebuild. I asked Peter to help me find a good replacement and he did.

This week I got all the units back and I have to say his work lived up to every good comment you see in these reviews. It was indeed like having a brand new S-Line. Well, it is except for the damage done to the receiver by the shipping company on its return shipment to me, even though Peter had custom-made shipping boxes for each piece. Peter had been paid and his work was done and this could have just been my problem to deal with, but even now Peter is in lockstep with me as we seek an insurance claim.

I cannot say enough good things about Peter Wittenberg. If you have a vintage Collins ham radio that needs work, he is indeed the go-to-guy for excellent service and top quality workmanship at a fair price.

30L-1 repair done well Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Peter took care of my tired 30L-1, finding and repairing a strange problem and testing it for proper operation, and all within a tight time frame. Well Done!

Excellent Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased a late run S-3 Line and had it sent to Peter before I even saw it. Good thing because the 32S-3 definitely needed some work. Peter went through all of the gear and he certainly did it right. I hooked everything up and it worked like new.
What a joy it is to use.

Peter's service was excellent and he keeps you informed on the progress, a real professional.

Excellent Collins 75S3B restoration Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have a Collins 75S3B that was in storage for over 15 years. It was dirty, the controls were noisy, the mechanical parts were binding and, though it worked to some degree, it was way out of alignment. Peter restored it wonderfully. It looks and works as if it were new and is a pleasure to use and admire. It now sits on my desk at the university where I teach. I can recommend his work very highly.

516F-2 Power Supply Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I sent 2 non-working 516F-2 power supplies, I bought from EBay, neither of them worked. One of them, I had recapped and did the solid state conversion, still did not work. Totally discusted, I sent both power supplies to Peter for repair, they both arrived damaged, due to the kind handling of Fedex. Peter gave me a great deal, he took one of the 516F-2s in trade for a lower price to repair the recapped supply. Peter totally repaired the shipping damage and electronic issues of the beter power supply, with the exception of a bad 5K pot, which he sent a replacement in record time. After I replaced the bad 5K pot, now I have a totally rebuilt 516F-2, 50 year old power supply with no issues. I works great with my rebuilt KWM-2 radio. Thanks again and good job! Peter.

World Class Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Recently after 6 years of retirement and getting settled I became intent upon getting my KWM-2A repaired. I settled upon Peter Wittenberg of Collins Rebuilders, simply because his business was within three hour’s drive of my residence. However, little did I know that Peter and his associate, Howard Mills, are world class restorers. Peter kept me apprised throughout the process and I discovered that, while the KWM looked good, it was an electronic disaster. In good time Peter informed me “all done!” and told me to come pick it up. As my wife and I drove to his shop we could clearly see that his QTH is “a whole nuther bay-side story.” Peter took us to his shop (outstanding) and showed me my KWM-2A, Power supply and station control as I had never seen them. All components were fully operational and cosmetically factory proof, inside and out. While there, Peter showed me some of Howard’s work (“black” gear or radios as Peter calls them). Howard works on the big stuff, such as R390’s and his work is nothing short of museum quality. Anyone contemplating alignment or restoration of Collins gear can rest assured of integrity, perfection, and finely honed, skilled workmanship, possible only after many years of experience. These guys are trustworthy and after the job is done, they are only an e-mail or phone call away. Oh! And the QTH. It’s right on the bay with an outstanding view of the bridge to Eastern Shore. The sunrise must be something to behold and his wife has the grounds so beautifully landscaped that the Butternut appears integral to the plantings, and it simply belongs there. Trustworthy.

Quality & Integrity Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Purchased a 312B-5 from Peter. It arrived well packed, including special consideration for the dial knob. To my surprise an original Rockwell-Collins manual was included, color cover and all. NIce touch, Peter. The cable ends were even labeled - another nice touch and a demonstration of Peter's attention to important detail.

The unit was in new condition, clean inside and out, and performed perfectly as soon as I plugged it in. Peter was a delight to deal with throughout the entire purchase process and consider him both a "business partner" and a valued resource and contact.

Quality experience. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Now, I think it’s my turn to give a response on this side.
I started one year ago as a Collins owner. KWM-2, 516F-2, 30L-1 etc.
Very soon I learned about Peter.
During the first year he has supported me with a lot of invaluable knowledge, not only about the KWM-2,
but also about the PS and PA.
I decided recently to send the KWM-2 to Peter for a general check and alignment.
Soon after arrival it was on the bench.
I was informed during the process, so I knew what was going on.
Even I am located in Denmark everything went absolutely smooth incl. shipment to and from.
Although there have been a lot of follow-up questions, Peter has never hesitated to give me a response,
even during weekends or holidays.
New questions will follow, I am quit sure, but that’s the way we can keep these radios glowing.
Thanks for your helpfulness Peter.
