Based on the recommendations on this eham site by other Collins Rebuilders' customers, I sent my Collins KWM-2A HF Transceiver to Peter to have him go through it and make it all "like new", as much as possible. I was very pleased with the results, and will be sending him a 75S-3B Receiver for the same treatment.

I traded a solid-state HF transceiver for a Collins KWM-2A package some years ago. I didn't get a chance to actually try out the KWM-2A until just recently. While it worked okay, it was evident that it needed some "fine tuning". I emailed Peter and arranged to send it back. This was an "early" KWM-2, so he installed the Collins modifications that needed to be implemented, fixed a broken glass on the meter, and replaced five tubes before doing a complete inside/outside cleaning, switch and control cleaning, complete RF realignment, and test.

When I received the radio back, it was all cleaned up - even the knobs had all been taken off and polished. The moveable indicator in the main PTO window now is near center when using the calibrate function, and it was probably as close to pulling a brand-new KWM-2A out of the original Collins box as I will ever experience. It works great on transmit and receive, all bands. Enclosed was a sheet showing all the results of the tests, receiver sensitivity, transmitter output, etc.

This is definitely a nice radio, and although I haven't had much time to use it since it came back from Peter, the transmit audio reports I've received have been great, and it has an excellent-sounding receiver. It's certainly a nice addition to my ham shack. Now I realize that I shouldn't have passed up the companion remote PTO unit for it that I recently saw at a local hamfest. Maybe a matching 30L-1 amplifier will sit beside it someday, too.

Peter returned my "S" line Tx and he did a stellar job. I sent my Collins 75S-3B Rx to him for his usual great work. It came back working just as it did when I took it out of the box in 1964!

Pete (K2LRC) is perhaps the finest professional vintage radio guru I have encountered. Not only was his refurbishing of the Collins S-Line I bought from him stellar, but his help in all things Collins made my transition from solid state rigs to vintage boat anchors quite a joy. I haven't been a knob twister in years and he brought back memories of when I started when I was 13. He put up with my many questions and answered them with quick return phone calls, even on weekends. Thanks.

Peter Completely went thru my KWM-2 and made it come to life. Cosmetics were done, alignmnent, some new knobs and some issues that were very difficult to find. Quick work and I could not be happier.

MY 32S-3 IS LIKE NEW Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My 32S-3 was a pretty mediocre piece of gear and I shipped it to Peter Wittenberg. He went through it and found a number of problems. To make a long story short, because of him I now have a 32S-3 that looks and operates like new! Fantastic job and highly recommended!!

Collins 75S-1 Restoration Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Peter is really great. My eBay auction Collins 75S-1 needed a complete makeover. By the time Peter delivered the finished restoration, I had a nearly "new in box" 1959 receiver experience. Without dedicated restoration experts like Peter, none of these classics would survive to be enjoyed by future generations. Bravo!

I am extremely pleased with Peter and his company. He recently completed refurbishing my 30L1. At each step of the way, Peter was in touch with me, both by email and telphone, to advise me of his progress and to suggest remedies to repair the unit. He sends a detailed report of everything he did, including repairs completed, testing of the amp, and suggestions for a longer life of the unit. His labor charges are reasonable. I would have no compunction of using Peter's service in the future and highly recommend him.
