Overly expensive but has advantages Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought it in 2007, an era where Softrock was not a general coverage HF receiver yet. I have built a Softrock lite for 10.7Mhz for 21$ and a Funkamateur BX-053 for about 25$. To have a clean spectrum I had to put an isolating transformer Funkamateur BX-053 at the antenna input. Compared to the Softrock lite, the BX-053 is much easier to build and a snap to tune. The Universal DRM- miniature mixer unit is simply a downn-onverter to 12Khz. It does not have IQ outputs, just a single output so AN ORDINARY LOW COST OR BUILT-IN SOUNDCARD WITH MONO MICROPHONE IS ALL THAT IS NEEDED!!! Softrocks and BX053 need a stereo input! Conversely this unit will work well with whatever soundcard you have!!! It has nearly the same gain as the BX-053 a has maybe a little better sensitivity to the Softrock lite I built. The 10.7Mhz version comes with a 10.712Mhz crystal and is precisely tuned! It's exactly made to have a 12Khz center band. It is so small to put inside other receivers that have a 10Mhz IF. Actually I use it as an IF of single conversion HF receiver, in a way similar to a Elecraft K2, so put in front of the mixer an additional crystal filter wide enough to have 2 or 3 SSB signals, about 10khz. The filter serves to remove ANY image. If used to modify a receiver this additional filter may not be necessary because the receiver should already have an IF filter. The overall result I had using this filter is excellent. Yes it is very expensive for what it is. Would I buy it again at that high price? No, but I am happy I did it!

I used it as an IF stage of a homebuilt sdr receiver. It works well. However, the unit is very expensive and to improve image rejection and crossmodulation issues I had to put a eight poles 10.7 crystal Filter at the input of the mixer.
