Excellent Product. Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This antenna is easy to assemble, mount and tune.

Pre-marked and well-machined sections make assembly simple.

The relatively small (NOT according to my neighbors) size and light weight make it ideal for a push-up pole; in my case un-guyed at 25 feet.

Though not specifed for 75m-80m, it WILL tune flat anywhere on these bands (AT-1500DT). I've worked twenty states, Mexico and Canada on 75m.

I am not an experienced operator. However, I've worked Japan, Canada, Mexico, Chile and all 50 states on 40m; fifteen states on 80w. I've worked New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Japan, The British Virgin Islands and a few other DX I wont list here on 20m.

I also participated in the NAQSO Party and parked on "clear" frequencies along 20m and had stations answering me at rates up to ten per minute.

The antenna just works. If you want something simple to deploy, this is what you need, IMHO.

Outstanding Antenna Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Let’s get to the bottom line first, what a great antenna! I am comparing its functionality to many of the antennas I have used over the last 60 years, from five-element yagiis to long wires. A ground plane antenna is what it is and I have been doing A-B comparisons with my BigIR MK II. Interestingly enough, they appear to work equally well, both on receiving and transmitting. However, the Zero Five ground plane appears to be significantly quieter than the BigIR on all bands tested.
Granted, the ground plane requires an antenna tuner whereas the SteppIR works its magic by changing lengths through processor control. However, the SteppIR does require an efficient set of radials which I have installed with the wonderful DX Engineering radial plate. The ground plane requires no such radial field. The counterpoise is part of the antenna assembly.
A note about shipping. The ground plane was wrapped securely with bubble wrap and then packaged within a customized, cardboard shipping container. And, as usual, UPS was able to gouge a significant hole in the outer covering. But, with the superb bubble wrap, there was no damage to the antenna itself.
Tom pre-assembles the antenna and marks the correct element lengths with a marker. Then, the elements are dissembled for shipping. During assembly, one simply inserts the element sections into the larger matching section, notes the markings, tightens the clamp, and mission accomplished.
I would like to add one final note about the assembly. I assembled the antenna and mounted it on a five foot pipe by myself, no helpers. I am 69 years old and use a cane to get around and, sometimes, need to resort to a four-wheel walker. This antenna is so well designed, machined, and constructed, that it is has no burrs or mismatched aluminum sections. And, all bits and pieces are accounted for. If I was able to get this antenna assembled and mounted by myself, I would think that just about anyone could, in about a four-hour time frame.
This antenna is not a cheap clone of a CB ground plane. As irony dictates, about 30 minutes after I had finished the installation, I and the antenna were hit by what we in Arizona refer to as a “Dust Devil.” Basically, this phenomenon looks and acts like a mini-tornado. They come from nowhere, touchdown , run for about a half-mile and simply dissipate. This one developed so quickly that it lifted me off the ground and deposited me behind one of our storage sheds. The Devil also hit the antenna straight on. The antenna came through without a scratch or bent element. I, on the other hand, didn’t fare as well. But, that’s another story.
This great Zero Five antenna would be a superb, low-footprint addition to anyone’s aluminum cloud.
Well done Tom.

Perfect choice and a very good preformer! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I purchased this antenna after talking with Tom for about 10 minuets. I needed a multi-band ground plane antenna, that would hold up to high winds and would be useable for legal amplifier use. This antenna is built very heavy duty, and it does not need to be guyed in heavy winds. The base of the antenna fits over a 2" OD pipe, which is perfect for mounting! The antenna requires the use of a antenna tuner, if your going to run power through you amplifier. I have made several hundred DX contacts, using this zero five antenna, with a amplifier and it preforms perfect on 10 through 40 meters! This vertical is a keeper! and if you decide to buy one, you'll love the way it preforms! It tunes down to 1.1 to 1.3 on all the bands, using a tuner. If your serious about long range DX contacts, with a vertical antenna, this is by far the best antenna on the market!
