Unique receiver catalog Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Fourth Edition, Second Printing November 2015

Everything G4TRA writes could have been written by me. This book is unique and a real must have for every collector of professional and HAM receivers. A very remarkable job done by N8EKU!

Even though oversea shipping this heavy book to DL cost a lot of money, it was worth every cent.

Awesome and Encyclopedic Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Fourth Edition, Second Printing November 2015.

Now hardback this book is a comprehensive guide to over 1700 shortwave, amateur and commercial communications receivers (plus 1200 variants) produced in the last 70 years. The 800 pages contain 1800 photos and information including: coverage, circuit type, display, features, performance, new & used values (for most), reviews, etc. Including 360 global manufacturers products it is an awesome tome weighing in at 3Kg, which is very befitting of the boat anchors it describes.
Sure the carriage charges from the US add a hefty sum to the overall price, but overall this essential book is well worth it.
Be the hit of the local net and impress you Top Band buddies with an encyclopedic knowledge of the worlds best receivers.

Great book - literally Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This review is for the new 4th edition. A big and heavy book, a treasure for everyone interested in radio. I have the 2nd edition from 1997 too and this was still paperback while the 4th edition is hardbound. You will find all desktop receivers and much more. I wish it would also cover all portable world band receivers, but that would fill another 1000 pages - or a separate book. This encyclopedia is well worth the money, including the expensive oversea postage.

Fred: Bring it back!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I concur with the previous reviewer; a wonderful and thoughtful (full-color) collection of so many receivers with some of author's personal comments; although I sometimes did not agree with some of his assessments, it is a "must-have" for any collector; the only problem is that it has been out of print for years and I cannot understand why Mr. Osterman has not come out with another printing; possibly did not sell enough; can't figure it out, all my collector friends have an addition!!

a big FIVE Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought this heavy book somewhere in 1998. Lots of interesting data about receivers. It was helpful to me to buy receivers at a reasonable price, to select the best ones according to my tastes and to inspire me how to build receivers and modify old ones. Written in a schematic way, it is very clearly written. I appreciated especially the pages dedicated to the GELOSO company, the factory based in MILANO/ITALY that produced radios and knowledge. Thank Fred for the excellent book!
