Good unit if reasonable efforts are made to drive it within it Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This unit is an older original mfger design without the latest design improvements from MFJ.
The pre-amp in not a low noise design but does work reasonable when the circuit is peak tuned.
My unit is well assembled.
Power out is as rated with 30 watts drive.
13 volt power in current is rated at 30 amps max.
Can be remote controlled with a BC-1 control head.
The trick to running these amps is not to overdrive in any mode.
FM about 30 watts. SSB about 10 to 15 watts peak.
AM about 15 watts.
There are technical reasons these values are a spec.
For example, 10 to 15 watts on SSB have peaks of about 30 watts depending on the voice and any compression used. This makes for the 30 watt/160 watt output spec.
Good amp if used in a reasonable manner and not overdriven to kill it or cause band splatter.
If replacing this unit, I would want the later Mirage design with it's auto bias and guard circuits.
