91b Update Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
It's been just about a year since my 91b arrived (see previous review) and operating it daily can only be described as extremely boring. It just continues to perform without a hitch. Needless to say I could not be happier. It easily runs legal limit every day and like a heavyweight prize fighter it just stands there and harasses my exciter with "Come on you lightweight punk, is that all you've got?" The tubes still put out the exact amount of power as the day it arrived. Even the band settings (Load & Tune) load at the same spot where I originally set them for each band. If you miss or enjoy the excitement of smoke, arcing and/or component failures I suggest you look at something other than a 91b. With legal limit high power amps, boring is the way to go!

Superb Amp - Well built and goes like a tank! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought mine second hand from Tommy WD4K and gave it a new home here in NZ.

I have owned a few HF amps but this is the dogs ... It is without a doubt one of the most robust amps I have ever driven. It's extremely well built, solid and reliable. Built like a tank you won't break this one! You're average ameritron its not!

I've been running this is pileups and DXing and its spot on. Easy to tune, keeps piling out the watts even after hours calling FT5 but its worked wonders!

I heard they were good, indeed they are! No wonder it gets a 5 * rating ! I'll add to that!

Now .. I need to see if I can trade my SPE amp in for one of those nice auto tuning Alphas with out the XYL noticing!!

If you get a chance to buy one... do it! You will NOT regret it :) So make some space and grab an Alpha!

thanks Tommy .. sorry it isn't coming home :)

BTW there is plenty of videos on youtube of them and loads of info around inc here on Eham - chek it out and then hunt one down - they are not easy to find ... theres a reason for that :) Once you have it - you won't be selling it!

Cheers!

Reliable Workhorse Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Amp was shipped to me with great care, as a new one would have been, from RF Concepts on behalf of HRO. Puts out as advertised after all these years. Very impressed by the workmanship inside and out. Works effortlessly as advertised all day, you can`t go wrong. Would buy an alpha again, new or used.

Alpha Amplifiers Time Owned: more than 12 months.
For the past five years I have been operating the CQWW and ARRL DX contests, both CW and SSB, from a major multi-multi contest station in west-central Wisconsin. You probably know the one I am talking about: 18 to 20+ towers ranging from 75 to 200 feet in height, 8 operating positions, all with full legal limit amplifiers, single band stacked yagis on 10-20, multiple rhombics at 100 feet, four-squares on 80, full-sized vertical on 160, and on and on.

I have been licensed over 40 years and have always heard of the mystique of Alpha Amplifiers, but I had never actually used them before operating at Paul's Multi-Multi contest station.

I am blown away - the Alphas appear to be indestructible. In the heat of a contest with guest operators who have never seen any of the equipment before, these amplifiers receive a fair amount of operator abuse: Hot switching of antennas, running unaware of a high SWR, and any number of other conditions.

These amplifiers are like that E***Ready rabbit - they just keep on running and running. They are amazingly robust and I have been very impressed with the quality of the construction of the amps as well.

At my home QTH I own and use another manufacturer's amplifier and I can definitely see the difference in quality and robustness. My next amplifier will definitely be an Alpha.

To paraphrase the company: "Ask the ham who runs one" - you can't go wrong.

Alpha 91B Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Purchased when initially offered, was on a waiting list for over 6 months and to this date was never sorry of this purchase. Never had any problems and it just keeps working. The new Alpha owners are also dedicated to the original amps and their owners- great group for anything you may need or have a question about.

Great Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Hello:
I bougth 2nd hand amplifier and I have use it for a more than a year and mostly in 48h contest“s. Not excessive noise and easy to tune it. Whit 30w RF input you will get around 1Kw.

I had little problem whit the vacuum relay circuit, sometimes not switch properly and the amplifier comes to fault state, you will not damage this amplifier, the protections circuit“s work really well.

Fantastic Amp ! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've been using my "Bulgarian Alpha" for about 3 years now without any issues. Quick and easy to tune and right on by the numbers. Still capable of legal limit with <50w drive and a KW of headroom from the original tubes. The previous owner sold me this beauty in order to upgrade to an Acom 2000a and based on my experience with amplifiers made by the folks Sofia Bulgaria I'll most likley do the same some day.
