Simple to use SWR meter Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is a simple plug and play SWR meter that does what you want. It is very solidly built and is heavier than you expect giving it a quality feel.

VK2QQ commented on the bug in the firmware. I don't think it is a bug; it is an undocumented feature. The manual says that the display clucked through Power (+) Peak power (:) and SWR. It does this if there is no power being transmitted at switch on.

However if you are transmitting when you turn it on, instead of Peak Power you get reflected power, shown by a - sign in front of the power reading.

Red Dot good Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had the VHF/ UHF model for a couple of years and it is holding up well. A minor quibble is that if it gets knocked the batteries can lose contact and its 4 screws to replace them. I glued a raised ring around the red button as it sometimes switched on in my backpack. I have no way of checking the accuracy but it gives consistent SWR readings The reason for giving it a 4 is that sometimes it does not cycle through the Fwd, Rev. Power, SWR until you reset it by pressing the red button. My unit is not marked 5WT and I see they are commonly sold as Red Dot SWR meters on ebay.

I bought two of these units a couple of months ago. One for VHF-UHF, and the 200W rated HF meter.

They both have clear and easy to read displays which cycle through the readings unless "paused", and a clear blue tinted back light.

The display with show forward power for 2 seconds, in the format +0.0P, then reverse power as -0.0P, then SWR as 1.00r. A short press of the Red Dot button will turn on the back light and a long press will pause the display so that you can read only forward power, or reverse etc.

There appears to be a bug in the firmware of the HF meter (not seen in the VHF meter yet) where it often turns on and instead of displaying reverse power as -0.0P. it shows :0.0P and appears to be displaying the forward power value. The forward power and SWR readings are correct.

I've often had to turn it off then turn it back on again and hope that it correctly displays -0.0P for reverse power. It sometimes takes a few attempts to get it right.

Aside from that glitch, they are solid, well made units in real metal cases, not plastic. Quite weighty in fact. The HF unit has SO239 sockets, the VHF/UHF version has N sockets. Powered by 3 AAA cells, I haven't managed to run the batteries flat yet.
