| I have RT Systems programmers and cables for my Yaesu FT-60R/FT-897D/FT-7900R and FTdx-5000. Everything works the way it should and enables me to maximize my enjoyment of my radios. Just as importantly, I have found that their customer support is outstanding. The few times I've needed their help my inquiries were returned very promptly and expertly. The level of trust I have in this company and its products is very high. |

| Buggy |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
The RT software for my Kenwood TH-D74 finally loaded on my PC after trying several methods. I programmed it with the repeater frequencies in my area, and sent it to the radio. It caused the TH-D74 to crash - no transmit or receive. I sent the HT to a Kenwood service center. They reloaded the factory software, and reloaded the radio with the factory program, and returned it with the comment "Suspect another RT Systems programming failure." The software from RT Systems may be buggy, although I can find no articles about it. A call to their help desk was an excercise in futility. The engineer who was assigned to that software was on vacation for a week, and no one else could help.

I just purchased a Kenwood TH-D74A and RT Systems software for the same unit. On a Windows 7 PC, the program would not run, giving an error in the RT Systems engine. I then loaded the software on a new Windows 8.1 laptop. The software started, but when I tried to connect to the HT, it kept reporting that it could not find the radio. I tried every combination of ports, power on/off, etc.
I have previously sucessfully used RT Systems with a Yaseau VX8d, and it worked perfectly. There is either a bug in the software, or a bad cable (supplied). |

| 60m update defective |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
The program installed and worked ok except for the one thing I actually bought it for...the 60 meter update for channel 3 (memory 603)
It says on the RT website that the software will make the correction, but this was not the case. You cannot modify the frequency in the database, it seems to be locked out from being able to be edited. And, no the radio has not been modified.
The cable worked ok, so I downloaded the free Chirp program and this time it worked fine, I was able to update the 60 meter memory with no issues.
If you are buying this program to 'fix' the 60m channel, then save some money and just buy a cable and use the free Chirp software.
Oh by the way, the disk sleeve says right on it:
"No returns once installation is completed."
That's what we used to call a 'tail-light guarantee'.
I wasted my money. Oh well, live and learn.

| Convenient |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I own over a half dozen versions of their software for different radios. It makes it easy to transfer frequencies from one radio to another even though the radios are different models and manufacturers.
Kenwood's free programs are not too bad, but the compatibility of using RT Systems works for me, especially as I own two of the same radio in some cases as well as a particular cable will work on several different radios.
Lately, with newer radios using a memory card their specific cable is not needed, but they still offer the software.
As to support, I have an old Yaesu VR-500 receiver and there was some kind of software update and my cable no longer worked. I emailed support and they sent a new cable as well as the new software at no cost to me, other than I think I paid for the shipping.
I have used the software on XP and now use it on Windows 7, 8, and 10 on laptops and tablets. If their software worked on a Mac running OS X as well I would be further delighted.

| Great products - Excellent support |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I have RT software for my FT-7800, FT-817, VX-6R and now the IC-7300. Any problems I've had were addressed quickly either by return e-mail or a phone call from them. I've upgraded from Vers 4 to Vers 5 and have had no significant issues. The tutorials are very helpful and well worth the time it takes to read them.
Been a customer/user for over eight years and see no reason to change.

I upgraded to the USB versions of the FT-817, VX-6R and FT-7800 software several years ago and they all work smoothly on my Win XP PC and Win 7 laptop for on the road use. Had a little startup issue and was guided via the phone to a solution - (they called me!).
Also using the ARRL repeater database program and importing the list - easy to do.
Fine products - excellent Support. |

| FT-1500M software a bust |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
| Lost original ADMS-2F diskette. So my fault that I'm missing the software, right. I go ahead a spring for the $25 software and download what might be a fresher updated version after 10 yrs. It appears now they have keyed the installation of the new software to having their unique USB cord or the software does not even install on the computer. Another USB-29F cable does not work. Paid for software that throws an err code #2 and complains it cannot proceed with installation, as I don't have THEIR USB-29F. I'll be sticking with CHIRP or G4HFQ for my software, as I searched around the RT site and for many other radios they have enacted this software integration forcing the buying of their specific cable for many of their software packages. They should not be selling the two distinctly if the combo is the only thing that actually works. |

| I can't imagine managing my radio without it |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
This software has improved dramatically over the years. It is currently at version 5 for the Yaesu VX-6. It's basically a spreadsheet customized for your radio. Channel information can be entered directly (repeater offset and operating mode are selected automatically but can be changed if you desire), and all the options like tone encode and transmit power are conveniently laid out in a row of check boxes and drop down lists. Channels can be freely moved, cut, copied, pasted, and automatically sorted using a wide criteria. For example, you can sort by the alpha tag and then by receive frequency in ascending or descending order. And assigning channels to memory banks couldn't be easier: it's literally as simple as putting a check mark in a box.
Along the bottom of the main program window is a row of tabs for selecting the main memory bank, the skip bank, scan limit pairs, direct memory recall channels, VFO, and the marine, shortwave, and weather bands which can all be tweaked to your liking. There's also a special settings window that gives you access to all the options accessed through the VX-6's Set menu.
Basically, anything you can do directly through the radio can be configured through the ADMS software.
I also got the USB programming cable which works perfectly, and I was able to quickly and easily transfer data to and from the radio. I spent an evening organizing and cleaning my radio's memories which had gotten into a bit of disarray, and I encountered no problems. The software is easy to use, intuitive, and stable.
My only disappointment is that it is Windows exclusive. I would love to see it for Linux, but that's currently not an option. I tried to get it working through Wine with no luck (it installed OK but kept throwing up an error message and then closing) so I finally resorted to installing it in an ancient copy of Windows XP that I run in VirtualBox, and this has worked very well. Of course the cable can be used for other software like CHIRP which does have a native Linux version but is, unfortunately, not as well-designed or comprehensive as the ADMS software. |

After having a lot of trouble programing my FTM100DR with the Yaesu software I bought the RT program and it worked the first time no issues.
When I bought MY FT2DR I bought the RT software and cable and after adding the inso to it, the HT was done in less than 15 minutes. It has never failed me on any of the 5 radio I have used it with. So all I can say is BUY it you will LIKE it. It is soooo easy.

| Product is good, serial number support lacking |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
I really like the RT Systems software--it does what it says for the radios I own. It is a pain to buy it over and over again for each radio, but I get that it takes them effort to add new support as radios emerge.
Here's my problem with RT Systems--twice now I made a purchase via their electronic download. Both times there were serial number issues and I could not retrieve my product or serial number via my order number link. They confirmed the first time it was a back end issue, but this time their technical support said my serial number being reported as bad was due to my AV software. Really, a text code placed into your application fires AV software????
I knew better and asked for an escalation--a day later they realized the code was incorrect and was actual from a prior purchase. They made it sound like I put the wrong code in. I sent them the actual email from the recent purchase showing they sent me the wrong code. What a pain. On top of the wrong code, the links they send to retrieve your order do not work. Another backend issue with some poor coding.
Anyway, the product is fine, the support and serial number methodology for electronic delivery has a lot to improve. Customer support is there to assist the customer and not dismiss the customer with made up responses. |
