Review Summary For : Conrad Retro Radio (AM)
Reviews: 1MSRP: € 9,95 (€8,95 for 10+)
Description:
Marketed by German electronics dealer and mail oder company www.conrad.de.

Comes in its own little cabinet, complete with knobs, var-capacitor, ferrite antenna, speaker, PCB and components and a German booklet with (child-oriented) instruczioons, detailed pictures and schematic.
Is not teribly loud, but does receive about 30 stations from all over Europe (here in Germny) at night.
Can be assembled in about two hours. I have assembled two so far with immediate success. There is a German help page on the internet with some troubleshooting hints.
Youngsters of 12 could make it themselves. With parental aid, children from 8 years of age could get it going.

Very good hobby starter Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
On the look-out for projects to get students started in the hobby, this little kit came into my view. I never was the soldering type myself, so I bought one to practice soldering not wanting to spend more in case I failed (again).

Inspired by a Philips radio from the 1930s, this radio kit is neatly packaged in its own resin coated cabinet. (You can download the (German) booklet and look at the pictures. If you require English, write to Conrad and refer them to ME. I will write the English booklet for MONEY).

All that is required on top is solder and soldering iron.

The few components are easily placed and soldered and the setup invites modification and extension from a headphone socket to long wave, short wave coverage.

The radio is very selective considering its simplicity. Stations must be tuned very carefully.

I met with instant success on both sets that I assembled so far (and gave away as presents).

Have the children in your surroundings make their own radios. They might take an interest in the hobby, after all.
