This is a great radio! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought two of these radios and I couldn't be happier! The readout is large and easy to see. Buttons are illuminated and easy to see at night. Extended receive range for public safety. Very simple to program and get the hang of this radio. I had a FT-8800R and sold it for this radio. This radio works great, is simple to operate and $249.99! Love it.

Very Nice Rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have nothing but positive feedback for this radio. Bought in October, I've had plenty of time to learn all the bells and whistles of the rig. Its simple to operate, yet has many variables in the menu to tailor to the operator's preference. When I bought mine, the separation kit came with the purchase and I also bought the optional TNC cable for packet op. I am using mine as my fixed station on a Comet GP-3 antenna and plan on buying another for the mobile station. Wattage is as factory specified with the exception of the lowest part of 70cm (430-433)...mine measured 6 watts below spec.

Great radio and great price $249.99 Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Insatalled easily and had great SWR's and power out was right on! However, I did not use the free kit from HRO. Front lighting is adjustable and not obtrusive when driving at night. I had never programmed a radio before and had to refer to the User Manual, but it was fairly clear after reading what to do! Approx 2 months after purchasing the radio I purchased the software for programming a bunch of other frequencies. At this point I would buy another FT-7900R!

Great Unit! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've had this unit for a few weeks now and am impressed with the specifications, particularly the power rating was spot-on as advertised.

Had to buy the separation kit though - could not find a dealer willing to throw it in for free!

Quiet and easy to operate, even when driving. I can't however, work out the purpose of the mic extension kit MEK-2..... Why the 6 pin modular plug?

Good value for money rig.

GREAT RADIO!!! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have had my 7900 for about 4 months now. Wow, It's a rocker. This radio is set up in my car with the included sep. kit. The display is big and very bright, but not too bright for driving at night. It's easy to use and program. I still have not opened the manual. Very user friendly radio if you are familiar with Yaesu's sub menues. The only thing that would make this radio better is cross band repeat. Worth the money, which for me was $265 new at AES.

GREAT BANG FOR THE BUCK Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
HRO had a real good deal going on this rig including the separation kit. I couldn't resist.

The radio operates just fine, I have had good audio reports. No glitches.

The display is big and bright, the backlighted buttons are great too.

Get the programming cable and software. They really make programming painless.

I am a recent convert the Yaesu. Great gear for the $$.

Awesome Rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This rig really reaches out there! I drive and 18 wheeler and have it mounted on a mirror bracket and can consistently hit repeaters 50 miles out and hear them just as good. The wide band works great and switches to AM automatically as needed when receiving aircraft etc.
The buttons on the Mic are kind of hard to press as you really have to dig your finger into the buttons to press a key. But I guess otherwise you'd be pressing them every time you pick up the mike maybe.
Just a great durable rig. Has to be to withstand the bouncing and jarring of the truck.

Great Radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Installed this in my F150 and the unit works great. I have it programed with my 2 meter and 440 repeaters as well as my local Police and Fire department. I can catch all the action with this radio.

Fantastic! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I installed my FT-7900 in my '07 Chevrolet Impala yesterday, and last night I gave it about a two-hour workout, driving around the Wisconsin countryside and touring all of the local "RF Black Holes" in the valleys around here.

Simply amazing performance. This radio is a keeper. Even with a small dual band mag-mount (chosen for its inconspicuous appearance) I never lost a repeater once, and I had many full-quieting reports on repeaters 25+ miles away. This radio is phenomenal!

If you want a tough, easy-to-use, high-performing dual-bander, look no further than the 7900R. I'll be getting another one for my home QTH. Bravo, Yaesu!
