Great 2 meter rig. a best buy Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Good solid radio. Knobs are tight, menus easy to understand and change. Audio has a pleasing tone. Great power output of 75 watts and then some I havn't found anything I don't like yet. A really great buy for 159.00 delivered from HRO.

Addendum to my Last Post Good Rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This review will negate and explain my previous post regarding the volume control not going to full 0 when turning the knob counter clockwise. Turns out this is apparently is part of the design. Several radios were checked and the volume operates the same way. So negating this peeve, the radio deserves a 4.5, as it is solid, full quieting, and powerful. In comparison to the FT-2800, it is definitely an upgrade. It may in fact become a good rival for the distinguished Ft-1802. As stated it is a 4.5, but I will hold it at 4, and allow others to put in their own thoughts.

Just Great Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Hi all. I have owned my FT2900 for about 2 weeks now and have checked it right out. I can't fault it. I had a FT2800 before this and it was ok but not as good as the FT2900R. My 2900 exhibits 80W on tx into 50 ohms so it is a little more powerful than advertised.
Very happy with this product.

Greeat radio for the money Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought mine for $159. Great price for a lot of radio. It has great receive and transmit audio, and it does 75 watts to boot. Easy to program and very rugged. No complaints here.

Great quality build for a great price Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I just purchased the FT 2900 from HRO in New Hampshire for $ 159.00.You can`t beat that one day shipping for free.I may be a bit bias as I as I am a fan of Yaesu but I wasnt sure of their mobile line of radios since I heard some not so good stories of the FT 2800.Well I have to say that I am very impressed with the FT 2900.This radio is built tough with it`s nice heavy heat sink.It feels like you can run the thing over and it will still work. The knobs are fine and have good tension. The display is very big and bright and you won`t have to squint on the road to see the display.Setting up the memories is a no brainer. The audio is clear and loud for a mobile setting. The overall build quality for the price I paid has made me a happy customer. It seems like Yaesu had it`s act togther when they built this one.

~~OUTSTANDING~~ Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Yep, Yaesu has a winner. The feel, the response, overall ease of operation, “KISS”.
This is one fine 2 meter transceiver. I have had a FT-1500, FT-1802, FT-2600 and the
FT-2800. Of those the FT-1802 rises above most. This unit runs past all them all, hands down. Now as if that wasn’t enough, the best is yet to come. If you run this in a vehicle, the large screen makes it a snap to look at the frequency then get your eyes back on the road. I run PSK 31 on VHF. I run at 50 watts, no heating or other issues what so ever. I have been a Yaesu owner for many years. I would like to think that this is a sign of good things to come. Bravo.

Solid Performer Built like a Tank Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought one of these at the Indy HAM fest 7-11-09 to replace my 2800M, which I didn't have a problem with it (love the 2800M) just brougt it in the house for my 2M base and wanted the extra 10 watts for the mobile.

The 2900R is basically the same as the 2800M with some added features, cosmetics and wattage. The volume and squelch knobs are firm now and have some resistance to them when turning them (you cannot bump them and knock the setting out of wack like the 2800). They give you 75W now on high power which is nice for me storm spotting when I am a county ahead of my own. They added a password protect feature and CW trainer and some other features I havn't explored yet. I have noticed some intermod that wasn't present on the 2800M.

Over all I love the radio and would recomend it to a friend.

BETTER BUILT THAN FT-2800M Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
THE CONSTRUCTION ON THE FT-2900M IS FAR MUCH BETTER THAN FT-2800M, VOLUME KNOB & SQL KNOB NO LONGER HAVE THAT LOOSE FEEL TO THEM. HEAT SINK HAS A MORE RUGGED FEEL TO IT. THE RADIO ALSO HAS MORE FEATURES IN IT'S MENU SUCH AS MIC GAIN CONTROL, THE RADIO NO LONGER SOUNDS LIKE U ARE TALKING OUT OF A CAN. PASSWORD FEATURE AND MUCH MORE NEAT STUFF I MUST SAY YAESU HAS A WINNER WITH THE FT-2900M PLUS 75-WATTS OUTPUT POWER.
I LOVE THIS RADIO. S/N 9H020XXX...
