Not for hammin' but great speakers!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've had these in black, silver, and white for many years! Even had them on my boat. (THe bracket rusted up quickly, but speaker survived).
Do some research, as there are MANY pages out there to modify these awesome speakers.
I still have about 4 pairs new in boxes, that I would snag when I use to go to flea markets.
Keep in mind, these are the LAST speakers you want connected to a ham rig. That would be just foolish, as they are effective in all the frequency ranges you DON'T want for voice...But for small sound system, these and the bigger brother (may be 12...or 19??) are fantastic!!!

Not MINIMUS at all! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
During the 1980s when my son worked for Radio Shack and received the employee discount, I systematically purchased five or six pairs to use as stereo system extension speakers. They are still in use for various purposes. None of these are for sale now!

Be aware that the Minimus series was available from RS in various case colors and in slightly different configurations. Mine are silver in exterior color, and bear the catalog number 40-2034C.

Given the age of any Minimus speaker which could turn up at garage sales today, it would probably be worthwhile to open the speaker case and to replace the single non-polarized capacitor that provides a simple crossover from woofer to tweeter. There are directions for doing so on You Tube.

I’ve had no problems whatsoever from my pairs. If the Minimus series were brought back to the retail market today, I would probably purchase more of them. I can’t make the same statement for many of the other items that were in use in my 1980s-era station.

What a HUGE difference! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Looking for an external speaker for your HF station?
This nice, heavy, small and solid Realistic Minimus-7 speaker sounds fantastic!

I've tried a bunch of other "bookshelf" speakers but they leave me lacking something in the sound.
I remember these little speakers when they came out and thought they sounded good on the "System 7" bookshelf stereo system at Radio Shack. Well my memory didn't disappoint.

Stations come in so much clearer and the filters on the radio seem to adjust to my hearing so much better.
OKay, enough yapping.

Do I like them? YES.
Would I get it again? YES

I'm off to eBay to try and get a couple more for my other radios.

REAL sleeper radio speakers! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
My father has a pair of these that I used as a teenager, but due to the inability of these to satisfy my bass requirements, they were retired to a box in the attic back in the 90's.
Now after becoming a amateur over 4 years ago, I have been surfing garage sales and resale stores searching for the perfect budget but excellent fatigue-less listening solution.
6 speaker tests later- I have used Boston Acoustics, Polk, Bose, B&W, Cerwyn Vega, and Radio Shack's Minimus 7 speaker.
I really expected the result to be bending toward the Boston Acoustics or the B&W's, but clearly the winner is the Radio shack Minimus 7 speaker.
Why? Totally smooth mids and highs, not overpowering, excellent representation of all voice & CW signals without any other tweaking of outboard processing or bass treble controls at all!!!!
I have been a amateur for 4 years. 4 years I have been looking only to find it at a neighbor's garage sale for $4!
This is being used on a Icom IC-7000 for portable (not really portable when it is almost as big as the radio hi hi!)
I recently have located the pair in the attic and resurrected them to use on my IC-7600 base station and now whether I am SWLing or operating any mode, the sound is BIG and filling while taking up little to no space as these are hung off a shelf above the radio.
It is easy to imagine with my eyes closed that the operator I am listening to is right in front of me in person!
I also noticed that even with the DSP off, the mids and highs are suppressed quite well due to some frequency roll off induced by the drivers only to our benefit of becoming much more pleasant to listen to over long periods of time without becoming fatiguing.
If you can find a pair and acquire them before I can get them, by all means go for it, you won't be disappointed!

Outstanding Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Bought this pair in 1972 for use in a customized van. Never could part with them. Only recently started using for ham. What a wonderful surprise. Use on IC-R75 and TS-480HX. Will buy more if I can find them.

Excellent for the price Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have owned two pairs of these neat little speakers. My son blew one out in a volume contest in the college dorm (45 watts/channel with all the base he could produce--the speakers with the 10" woofers won) and the coils CAN be over powered. My second set are used with a small subwoofer, but I've used them alone often--these I bought at a garage sale for $5! They are reasonably accurate and do a remarkable job for their size. I have noticed that if the speakers are stuffed in a bookshelf, they will lose their brightness. If they are played out in the open, they can not generate enough base to compensate for being away from a wall or a surface to help frame the strength of the base response. This is, of course, typical for small speakers. I just moved the speakers toward a wall or a corner to increase base. If you can find these speakers, they are still worth the original price.

Works great Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've had a pair of these for many years. They are great for music and right now I'm using one on my FT-950. Why doesn't anybody make good quality stuff like this anymore?

Great Speakers Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I use two of them with my TS2000(X). One for the Main receiver and one for the sub-receiver. Having the physical separation makes it easier to monitor a 2M repeater while working an HF net.

Excellent audio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Had a pair way back when they first came out and they eventually wound up damaged or missing. Just recently purchased a pair in great shape on Ebay for $38 for the pair (plus shipping).
They sound as good as my original pair. With the equalizer set properly in my radio, these give hours of fatigue free audio.

Great speaker Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Hard to brake and hard to beat by any jap brand speaker,it will outperform any factory made speaker built specifically for your radio, freq response is way better than most of the brand name speakers and way less expensive,I have been using these for many years, all of my radios use them, its a solid heavy black metal case containing two speakers inside, one 3.5 inches diameter woofer and one 2 inches diameter tweeter, when you hook these up to your radio the diference is day and night, the audio comes louder and wider and now you will hear the "lows" that you never heard using the expensive good looking sofisticated speaker that cost over 100 bucks, the good part is that you will find these oldy ones on the local hamfests as well as your local free fleas,I don't know in other states but in Florida we have these "Goodwill" stores that collect money from the donations sell to help the churches and there I have seen these "Realistic" speaker, the last pair I purchased cost me just 2 bucks a piece and there was nothing wrong with them, only needed a cleaning.
Excellent audio response for few dollars, have them at your shack.
