Working great hung vertical Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Just bought one of these for emergencies, in case the ice brings down my normal 20 meter horizontal dipole.

At first I tried it horizontal about 14 feet high. After a lot of adjusting, the best SWR I could get was 1.63 at 14.160MHz. That would have probably been ok, but the SWR at the upper and lower ends of the 20 meter band came in a little over 3, so I wasn't satisfied.

Next I tried hanging it vertical and got much better results. SWR at 14.070 is 1.03 and both ends are about 2.

In this case I have the ground end about 15 inches above the ground. I hung it with a rope tied to the center and ty-wrapped the upper stinger to the rope to keep it vertical. The coax is pulled away horizontally from the antenna, so that it doesn't couple to the dipoles.

The only adjustment I made was shortening the ground end stinger by 2 inches. So, now the upper stinger is 40 inches and the lower stinger is 38 inches.

I did try switching back and forth between this antenna and my regular 20 meter dipole and comparing results. There is obviously a difference, but surprisingly it seems to work maybe 70% as well as my 50 foot high 20 meter dipole.

The MFJ-2220 is actually comprised of (1) MFJ-347 and (2) MFJ-1620T hamsticks.

It's stored back in the garage where hopefully I will never need to use it.

Great for a Go-Kit Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Liked the 20M dipole setup so well that I bought 75M and 40M pairs of whips to use with it. Eventually I hop to have pairs of whips for all HF bands and 6M. This has become part of my go-kit.

Update: MFJ 2220 Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Update: Rotated 90 degress SWR = 1.5:1

Less than 2:1 for 100khz

Consistantly 2-S-units above 4BTV ground mounted with 30 ground radials.

Dipole at 28 feet. Nulls (ends) North & South.

Many W6 & W7 conatcts, also Europe.

Physical length less than 16ft. This would be a very decent portable 20m antenna.

For $49 from MFJ - 3 months -not bad at all. 73 K1WJ
