Great speaker for FT-DX10 and IC-7300 and K3 Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have used the Midland 406 external speaker with all three HF transceivers with excellent performance. The quality and price cannot be beat. Majority of my operating is CW, but the Midland speaker does a great job with very clean audio, distortion- free, on both CW and SSB.

My only mod was the addition of three, small (3) stick on feet, to prevent the speaker from sliding while atop the transceiver, when it is tilted on its bail.

Very Surprised and Pleased! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I needed two more speakers in the shack. One for my Uniden scanner and the other for a Kenwood VHF/UHF transceiver. These are currently $29 on Amazon. I must say that they are well build and sound fantastic! Very pleased.

Just Okay Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Bought new Sept 2020. Tried on my Kenwood TS-2000X and my ICOM IC-R8600. Can't say it is any better than the built-in speakers which suprised me considering the past excellent reviews. It is well-built and the price is excellent.

Just Great Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have been using this little speaker for at over 20 years, I have 2 of them. It sounds better for voice on AM and SSB than any speaker I have ever used and I tried several just to compare. You can't beat it price wise either. They were designed for truck drivers to use in their noisey cabs so they can get lots of good clean sound and that is what they do. Highly recommended.

I'm Stunned! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This speaker is loud, clear, heavy, and very well made. It's better than most expensive filtered name brand external speakers. Don't waste you money. Buy this speaker and save your hard earned cash! It's a winner.

best bang for the buck Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Face it - radios typically have lousy audio quality. You can spend ridiculous amounts of money for a "matching" speaker, or you can buy one of these and vasty improve your audio quality. I liked the first one so much I have three of them, one for each radio. The only radio I didn't feel the need to use an external speaker on is the Motorola XPR5550e mobile.

The inexpensive MFJ speakers are horrible - worse than the stock one in the radio. The Icom, Yaesu, Kenwood ones are overpriced. This Midland does the job for a great price.

Good is Good Enough Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is a good speaker for mobile and portable rigs, and sounds good - and good is good enough for this application. I don't expect hi-fi sound out of my mobile rig... just clear, intelligible speech with no unwarranted or deleterious side effects. This speaker does the job, and has no downers (such as unwanted resonance or buzzing or hissing or vibrations). Low price, good value for the money.

Just MY take... / K8JHR /

Great speaker, great value Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Great speaker that's built well for mobile use, with good clear sound that's not tinny like so many small speakers. Also works well in the shack, especially with FM radios although I prefer a larger "mellower" sounding speaker for SSB/CW.

The speaker is identical, other than the screenprinting on the front, to the /\/\ branded mobile speaker that's used with some of their LMR products.

Icing on the cake for this product is the very reasonable street price.

Sounds good, looks good Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I remember the Midland brand from waaay back in the 80's when I had a Midland CB and a couple of Midland branded speakers from Radio Shack. Always a solid product. Recently I was looking for an extension speaker for an FT-897D and found the Midland 21-406 on the shelf at Fry's ($19.99). Radio Shack only sells it through their web store (same price). Though billed as a CB and Marine speaker, the 21-406 sounds good in the ham shack. It is a rather large speaker, which suits me just fine, but may be a problem for smaller shack desks. A smaller, slightly different version exists, as well. The bracket/stand is a little awkward for desktop use; the speaker wants to fall forward in certain positions. I just set the speaker on its base and rotated the stand back out of the way. For mobile use, there are several mounting holes in the stand/bracket and the speaker comes with screws. Overall, sounds good, looks good!
