Quality Control stinks Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Purchased new. After all these years the radio works great and gets great audio and signal reports consistently. Still a great radio for all modes.

Outstanding radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have owned and used Yaesu all my Amateur radio life, started, 890, 920, 2000, MP1000 currently have a 450D and the legendary 1000MP MKV fully loaded which I've been flying for 7 years, goes without saying, tops the MP1000 for me, only because of the 200w output.

I use the Heil Proset Elite IC headset with excellent audio reports, tweaking audio settings for DX, just acquired a heil Pro-Set Plus which I will try also for DX.

Receiver is something to behold, filtering both SSB & CW excellent which is a treat to work with during contests on a busy band.

I compared it side by side with a friends K3, for me, no contest, MK5 won hands down, maybe I'm biased.

I never run her at the full 200w, normally 180w, works well with DX Labs software. I don't do digital modes so can't comment.

I'll keep this lady until we are both back in the box.

Can't comment on the tuner as only use balanced antennas.

Keep a hold of her if you have one, legendary radios indeed that are still going strong and will continue to outperform the best out there.

Fantastic Radio!! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Initially I thought the receiver in this radio was its greatest feature due to the low noise, excellent filters and sensitivity. Best I ever heard! But the transmitter also excels receiving great audio reports and strong signal reports using only the 200 watt output. After getting used to the rig I stopped using my amp as I generally didn't need it to make good contacts. Hard to go wrong with this radio as to date I have only pros and no cons to report. A best buy for me and deserving of a 5+ rating.

LOVELY YAESU 1000... Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is a very nice rig. The receiver works quite similar as my FT-1000D. My Mark V had a problem with the CFL Back-Light, which was repaired with LED Service Kit made by myself (see bitstork MOD1000LED on ebay.pl or on my QRZ.com page). Adding a roofing filter makes the receiver much more selective. "Mechanical" construction is not very strong, however (it is easy to damage the front panel/keypad during transport, if not protected correctly). The DSP is not the first class, but is helpful sometimes. I give it "Good" rate because FT-1000D is "Great"-er for myself. vy73! de SP2AND

A workhorse ..... Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
A dear friend, Ian-M0IOD, put me on to a late 2005 model which was going begging so (to cut a long story short I exchanged my FTDX-3k) I had to jump in!
I'm not unfamiliar to the 'MP' radios but have never owned a Mk.5 however I am so glad I made the jump!
This is one of the most robust radios it's been my pleasure to operate so how did I get here?
Well bought an Icom 7300 (cicrca £1100 at the time) then swapped that for an FTDX-3000 the (without hesitation) agreed a swap for this (late model) Mark 5!
I added the SSB filters only (I don't use cw), swapped out the noisy FP-29 psu fan for a more modern quieter one and fanny's your uncle as they say!
It's not akin to more modern sets with 190-odd menu settings, no USB connections here however old-school isn't always bad!
The auto atu strips both my vertical (Cushcraft R5) and ocf dipole in seconds so it's still a really viable set and as for the audio my Heil ProSet Plus, together with WTF I've done on the audio set-up, gets me compliments and that's always a bonus for me!
I popped a ZLP Electronics DataLink on it for data modes (WSJT etc) and it works fine from the rear with the CAT provided by an FTDI-chip CAT cable.
So putting this all together I've got an FT-1000MP Mk5 + ZLP DataLink + WSJTX software + JTAlert software + Log4OM all linked, all talking to each other and, most importantly, linked!
This radio is 'Boss' simple as that ..... endtrans!

One of Yaesu’s greatest radios Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This radio I feel is the best I have ever owned
The filters is just fantastic filters out a lot of noise
Just added 4 filters
Purchased a secondhand sp 8 speaker already had the md100 desk microphone and looks a great lineup
I also have the Kenwood TS990s but I feel the filtering on the Yaesu is better
If you are thinking of getting one go for it a great radio for its age

GREAT RIG Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is one of those old workhorse radios. After getting all the upgrades done, this is one of the best HF rigs I've owned. It's nice having the 200 watts available when needed. Can't speak for it on Phone as I have never been on any mode but CW.. Bands are really poor now but with the aid of my loop antenna there are many stations out there to work. This is no light weight, you put it on your desk and it's so heavy you don't want to get rid of it cause you will have to lift it, hi. Over the past years it has been better than any of the new Icom rigs I owned in the past. Yaesu did a good job with this one, just filter it up and enjoy a great rig.

I have two now Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have two of the ft1000mpmkv these are great rigs the vrf and idbt are great. I use them for rag chewing run a commander 2500 on one and a alpha 9500 on the other. Never no problems with these and if I do you could actually work on them, did several repairs from the front end to the tuner. Yaesu keep up the good work. This is a revision to my old review where I had a mkv and a mp

I bought this radio a couple months ago i really like it.
I run it with a md100 mic and the kenwood tl922a and what a match, the only thing is the power supplies if they go bad like mine did there is no one to fix them without charging a arm and leg

17 years later a classic radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Purchased new in about 2002, wondered if it was risky, such a big radio......nothing but HAPPINESS from this radio. No screens to distract, just pure radio. I am thinking of adding an outboard panadapter to see who I am missing, but its been nothing but a pleasure to operate.
I've used the newer rigs from Kenwood, Icom, and Yaseu, love the features and hate the menus. If I ever get to "upgrade" to one of the newer rigs I don't think I'll trade. The more knobs the better!

I cannot believe these are rated 4.4----the Mark V is a classic. de WO8USA
