A great buy in today's market Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have had the 1000MPMK5 for a while, filtered up and it is an amazing radio. My only gripe is I wish it would operate off DC instead of the cumbersome AC/DC power supply you have to drag along with it.

FOr the price you pay for a used one, well, well, worth the money for a top of the line radio with exceptional performance!
Who says you have to have new?

Very Good!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have the FT1000MP Mark-V now...what a great tranceiver!
Comparing with the FT990 (i had before this one)its a big step ahead.
Not that the FT990 is no good tranceicer, sure it is....buth the Mark-V blow it away.
Very very sensitive RX...audio on receive modes are great.
Good audio transmitting as well with my simple MD-100 microfoon.

I hope to have fun fore many years with this tranceiver.

Great Radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Have owned the MK V for over 4 years and performance has been great . I installed the Inrad noise mod and had great results. The radio has never been touched since bought new.

Best Rig I have Owned! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I managed to find a MK5 in MINT condition-wich in itself is rare I suppose as many of the MP's have been battered and torture tested during DX-peditions and contests.
The rig does Everything Very well-the noise floor is low, selectivity is great , audio is very nice-(and configureable!.) The PSU is quiet-(Fan noise AND electrically). The VRF and DSP Works, and very well at that!.
Because of the various very good stages of filtering this rig closely emulates the FT-1000d which was a benchmark rig in its' day, now with added DSP-it is even better!.
Some reviews like the EA obviously had a bad unit, or one struck by lightning-because this rig is Quality!. A keeper for sure!.
Hopefully my '5' will lift the average a bit-as this rig deserves a better rating!.

Well done Yaesu! and thank you JA1MP..

Great Radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Great radio, I must say Dsp is very effective, Add roofing filter and this is only radio you will ever need. I get great reports running low power. Good quality like the old kenwood's. This is a real radio.

Great ! Great! Great! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought a second-hand one (Wow! wath a risk!) .Excellent transceiver, 200 watt power is very useful in many case.I,ve also a lot of narrow filters (i'm looking for a 500Hz Collins mechanical filter).I got more than 120 DXCC in no more than 4 months. It needs only a good microphone because the standard one give a very narrow modulation, good in dx and contest but ugly for normal qso with friends.
The other thing is the "menu" for setting the RTX, very difficult to be remembered, so I need always the user manual close to the radio.Satisfied 100% !

Wonderful Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I am not much for writing anything let alone reviews. I will not go into the detail of the pluses and minuses of the transceiver; they are well documented.

I will say this. IMO, the MkV has been the BEST HF transceiver that I could afford to own and I have owned quite a number of transceivers in the 30+ years of being an Amateur.

My rig has all the factory standard and optional filters. I have tweaked the radio via the menu system to what I think are the optimal parameters. I have the FTV-1000 6m transverter. I use a Heil GM-4 microphone.

Anyone can be heard, it only takes power. Hearing who is coming back to you is quite another story.

As I tell people who drop by the shack and listen to the radio, it is NOT what you hear but what you DON'T hear. And I think that says it all.

JA1MP would have been very proud of what HIS company achieved with the Mark V.

Excellent Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
So on a whim, I bought this FT-1000MP Mark V. It had been owned by a ham, now SK, who obviously took great care of it. I had looked them over for at least the past ten years or so, and finally had the money, etc. Wonderful decision. The station here in Tucson uses a High Sierra El Dorado package screw driver antenna mounted on the roof with abut 20 radials beneath it on the flat surface. Even with the bands and the sun spot cycle where it is at, this radio performs magnificantly! If I can hear it, I can work it. The receiver with the APF function, DSP and all the narrow filtering processing options is absolutely impressive. The menue systems takes al little getting used to, but one doesn't live in the menu system anyway. I also have an FT-897 with a more frequently used menu system, but the ability to do all these functions with knobs, rather than the menu is really a step up! If you get the matching speaker, so much the better, but not worth a great deal of more money if you have to obtain it seperately. It is nice, but somewhat overkill with marginal improvement with the built in filters. The addition of 200 watts instead of the former 100 watts is also a big improvement. This makes for the first major hurdle in improving signal strength with power, from 200 watts and up, one must make much more significant power input gains to achieve a measureable improvement in the received signal. I am happy with the IMD, selectivity, and filtering system, and this rig has only the factory standard filters! Can't imagine the improvement with the additional filters! Wonderful radio! If you can find a clean one, wihout mods, etc. Don't hesitate! It is truly a remarkable radio. I have used a lot of them, FT-1000, TS-950SDX, ICOM 746 Pro, Collins S line, ICOM IC 706MKIIG, FT-897D, and this radio is head and shoulders above them all! (In my opinion). With the exception of the F/B ratio of my former 4 element yagi at 45 feet, I think I have recovered the gain lost when I left the tower and beam behind!

fantastic radio... Time Owned: more than 12 months.
i have had this radio now for 12 months and i can say that it,s the BEST radio i have ever used. the receive is second to none and the transmit is good.. it puts out 200 watts on transmit which i find is a bonus when it comes to working on 20m...i have nothing bad to say about this radio at all. and i cannot see me changing this rig for many years to come. 10/10

Amazing Radio ! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I thought my 920 was amazing until I got the Mark V.. what an amazing radio! Quiet, stable, easy to tune with the built in tuner ( covers all bands with the ZeroFive Vertical ) .. fine audio reports, and very easy to listen to... unfortunate that they're no longer made.. great deal on the used market !!

Cheers... KK8ZZ
