Great First Impressions Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I was pleasantly surprised with the Wouxun. I was not expecting something of this quality. The radio fits my hand very nicely, and while it is a bit challenging at times to understand the manual - I still haven't figured out why I would actually want the TDR key - the other vendors could take some lessons from their programming software. My only suggestion for improvement would be if the software calculated the normal repeater offset for you automatically. Instead, you have to calculate it, and so far, I haven't found any that I screwed up, but I am fairly sure I probably did.

I recently gave away my ancient FT-50R and gave back a VX-5R I had been using for some time. I think the Wouxun is actually easier to program than either of those two. It doesn't have a lot of features I will never use, but it does have some that I will. The flashlight is much more useful than ARTS.

I am so impressed, I ordered another one from Ed as a gift, and may get a 220 version soon, too.

lets not get carried away!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Ok, so yes it's probably the lowest priced HT on the market in it's class. but lets not get all carried away in calling your more expensive HT's "junk" I mean really!! most if not all the stuff inside this little jem was developed by the big 3. As far as it hitting more repeaters than your big boy model, well have you ever heard of an antenna...
I have compared this little wonder to all of my other HT's and I have many. icom, kenwood and yeasu rigs all their most modern examples and yes it preforms right up there with most, but the features on the other rigs is 6 fold over this little baby. now don't get me wrong I like this rig very much, the software worked good for programing, it's built well, it feels good in your hand, sounds great and yes the (Stock) antenna is better than the (Stock) antenna's on some of my other rigs. but if I replace the (Stock antenna) let's say on my VX8R with a Diamond then it is about the same as the Wouxun. so hey they did one thing right, it has a better (stock) antenna than the others do. Believe me I don't feel the least bit slighted for paying bucks for a VX8R. It is what I consider the pinical in HT's the best on the market right now and the Wouxun will not and can't even come close to holding a candle to it. But that being said these are 2 entirely different classes of HT's. The Chinese guys have a long way to go before you can call your expensive HT "junk" aside one of these. So, yes this is a great little HT for the price, I like it very much. Would I buy another one from them, Yes, I would. But make no mistake, this is an inexpensive bare bones HT and that's what you are getting for your 100.00 bucks. so please guys stop calling your (High End) HT's junk, because they aren't. The saying goes "You Get What You Pay For" still holds water, and this is no different. It's like comparing a Collins KWM2-A to a Kraco CB radio.

Needs Help Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.

I have the 2m/220 P version. Ed at wouxun us is great to deal with.
Main downfall is in FM radio mode speaker will pop & crackle big time on most FM stations. Not ideal. Looking at changing antenna to see if that resolves issue. Many have reported the same FM radio mode speaker crackling. Meter reads full scale regardless of received signal.China is still not up to par at this time. K1WJ

Not to bad, not bad at all Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I got my little KG-UVD1P Yesterday the 16th of July and with the program and cable it was easy to program and in 20 mins i was up and running. This little guy is impressive and has many bells and whistles to keep you happy for a while, and what other HT comes with a flashlight????
I did get accessories with the radio as well.
I must say for $95.00 can't beat it, consider i spent 3 times that for Kenwood THF6A Hand held and my Yaseu VX-7R.
I do recommend this little guy to any hammer.

Amazed Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Just got this radio today with the programming cable and downloaded the software. I am really amazed. With the stock antenna, I am able to bring up and comfortably communicate on six repeaters from my home. I have the Yaesu VX-7R, and I like Yaesu, but that thing was junk. Bought it new about three years ago for about $300 (Three times the price of the Wouxun). I used it only when I traveled and so it had about 20 hours of actual on-air time and it failed totally. Even when it was working, I could only hit three repeaters from the same location that I now hit six with the Wouxon.

I bought it from Ed in NC. What a great guy. He was so very helpful and so quick with the shipment. If you are like me that wanted a handheld but didn't want to spend so darn much money, this is for you! Not "cheap", just inexpensive! Great radio... I sure made a good decision buying this, and dealing with Ed.

i liked the 2mt 440 so much that i bought a 220 model. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
the build of this ht is far better then i expected. i have owned ht's from all the big makers. i got used to things such as auto offset and such. with this radio you have to enter all that yourself. its a bit more work, but the computer software makes it easy.the low price of the extras like aa case, speaker mike are dirt cheap. i liked my first one so much that i bought a 220 model. so far everything works great. you cant get more bang for your buck anywhere. cant wait until they make a mobile. its not an ICOM IC-W32A , but it didnt cost $300.00 either. the 2 WOUXUNS i own with all the extras i bought cost less than the W32A with no extras. ICOM battery $69.00 ,WOUXUN $19.00 . do the math.

great rig for the price Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
got the wouxon in today. so far i have to say for the money i am damned impressed with this little radio.

compared to my vx-7.....

software is easier to make work reading and writing to the radio.
audio is louder
audio is much more clear
stock antenna is as good or better than the srh320a on my vx-7

NOT water proof, plastic case. no where near as sturdy, but it's also fairly hefty and the build quality appears better than i expected.

with the stock antenna i am able to bounce a local repeater i can't hit at all with my vx-7. not enough to talk but it does key it.

dual band dual radio... sort of. you can monitor both side os the radio but only one side can scan. IE.. side a scan.... side b monitor one channel

fm broadcast radio is nice. good reception, decent audio and allows you to monitor the primary channel at the same time. mutes fm radio when activity is on primary channel.

programming is from the key pad is fairly easy to navigate and direct. from the software it's a bit archaic in design
battery charger is nice but feels a bit flimsy. been a few reports of these failing but from what i have read company is actually good about service them and they have a true US distributor service group now.

used it a good bit today. honestly it's a easy to use decent little rig. for a 130.00 shipped with extra speaker mic and AA battery adapter it's a pretty darn good deal.

radio comes unlocked to cover complete band range so you'll need to make sure you don't program in tx freq for bands outside the ham zone.

Great Radio for the $ Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
There are many reviews of this radio. Some good some bad. For the money, its a very nice package. You can buy direct from Hong Kong on Ebay, which is what I did (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350230132626&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT).
For $105 you get the radio, drop in charger, Power plug adapter, programming software with usb programming cable, ear bud with mic. I am starting to see other distributors sell the same radio starting at $129 but I am not sure if they are giving you everything else too.

The software is a bit confusing at first because the disk they send has all sorts of programming software (in Chinese). All you need to do is copy the Wouxun folder to your computer and forget about the rest.

It takes about 10 days to get from HK.

The radio itself has slightly different programming than what we are used to seeing with the standard HT's. But its not a bad thing. You can figure it out fairly easily.

The antenna is interesting as it is SMA. But the radio is female and the antenna is male. Opposite of what we normally see, so you are restricted to using the antenna that comes with the radio, unless you get an adapter. Other than that, its a great package for the price.

Excellent for the Price Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I used to buy handhelds from Dealers in the USA but got poor service so I now by direct from China. I pay cheap prices and I get a better radio. In addition to the dirt cheap price you also get the accesories like the batteries etc at give away prices. I hope the Chinese start making HF and radios as i will be there.
