Hi All

I just had to include this receiver in eHam reviews so others will know about it.

First, it is only a MW and VHF broadcast band receiver. Sony has done some DSP good stuff in this radio.

If you have 2 stations that are only 100KHz apart this receiver will separate them perfectly, there will be nothing to press or adjust, the stations will be clear of each other due to the receiver's unique DSP hardware that actually works correctly.

Its sensitivity is as good as most high end receivers but its selectivity is what makes it to be a great receiver.

It makes an excellent FM DX receiver at a low entry price, it has made FM station hunting more possible for more DX enthusiasts and its simple use allows almost anyone to enjoy their hobby.

Pros:
Small foot print.
Low power.
Excellent selectivity. It is hard to believe how good it is.
Very good sensitivity.
Few controls.
Easy to use.
Very big bang for your buck.

Cons:
It gets hot, no I mean REALLY HOT, even when in standby.
Bad heat dissipation design.
I expect it to have a short life unless modified.
Bad ergonomics.
Only has line outputs, so it needs an external amplifier.
Sony have address all of the above when it released its desktop receiver the XDR-S3HD

Regards John
