Great little radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have a VHF version of the CP200. I give the radio a 4 out of 5 being that the VHF version only covers 146-174, it wont cover 144. Other then that its a great radio. They come in 4 or 16 channels. the CP200XLS will do 128 channels. The other other issue with the radio as with all Motorola Radios is the programming software. Like I said its a great radio and I use mine for public service events.

Great if cheap Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Just to put out there that the version made to work on 438-470 segment can be programmed for ham 440 with no mods or changes. Any PL tone you want can be put in for tx or txrx too. I am not gonna give the whole spec sheet but it can run either 4 watts or reduced power to save battery and seems to work quite well when programmed for local repeaters. Presumably with the widespread bandwidth you could also put on some FRMS or GMRS freqs, to just monitor, of course! You can select whether it is for 12.5/20/25KHZ bandwidth channels. Pretty basic with just a channel knob with numbers. But if it can be had "cheaply" it will do fine for a durable UHF handheld for ham use. Accessories aplenty on ebay etc. Does have a few bells and whistles like extra multifunction buttons and beep codes, and tricolor LED status ind. I like it. Specs and user manual pdf still on Mot. website for the time being (Early 2010)
