Review Summary For : TENTEC Model 712-USB Soundcard Digital Mode Interface Cable
Reviews: 6MSRP: 69.00
Description:
This adapter cable is a soundcard USB device that allows direct connection of the AUX I/O, ACC 1 or AUX 1 jacks on the Omni VII, Orion, Orion II, Argonaut V and some Jupiter transceivers. This is a "plug n play" cable which includes the soundcard device built in thus eliminating the need for other connections between the computer and the radio. Setup is easy and only 5 steps. The computer requires a USB 1.0 or 2.0 port and does not require an additional soundcard. Your favorite digital program using a soundcard interface will work with this cable. All levels are controlled by the Volume slider in Windows.

Low level on TX on Orion-Aux gain wide open Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I picked up this USB sound card from a local ham who also had an Orion. He never got it to work. I had no TX audio/but RX and keying was fine. I had to turn the Aux input gain to 60(wide open) to get it to work. The RX is excellent on FT8. Others say they had almost too much-dunno. Running latest firmware on Orion..Why only gave it 4.

Works well with Eagle Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I got one of these used for my Eagle. Plugged right into the rear DIN jack and had signals right away on WSJT-X software. Had to mess around in the software menus to get it to key the radio on transmit.
The transmit audio is pretty 'hot' and needs the level on the PC almost at minimum. A modification is to add a 10k resistor to the P4 line inside the little dongle. Need to do this to mine, would make the PC slider level adjustment less touchy.

Doesn't work for me. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have it connected to a Ten Tec Orion II. It appears to be de-coding, but i have NEVER been able to get it to key the transmitter and send data like its supposed to.

Everybody raves about how easy it is, but I have yet to see it work.

This is the first thing I have bought from Ten Tec that has been a bust.

Model 712 Works Great! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I recently purchased a used OMNI VII. It's the third that I've owned. Why did I sell the other two? Stupidity, I suppose. But, this one came with the Model 712 Digital Mode cable. Yesterday, I plugged it and set it up. It contains its own internal sound card, accessible via CODEC.

As one would expect from TT this is a very well-engineered piece of equipment. The sound card in this little dongle appears very sensitive and pulls in very weak signals. If you have an OMNI VII, or another TT rig that is compatible with this adapter (such as later Jupiters, some Argonauts, and some Orions), I highly recommend it as the easiest way to get on digital modes with these rigs. Great product. Now, we just need TT to get their amateur business back to previous levels!

Perfect for Ten Tec Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
My main radio is a TT Jupiter. I've decided (since recently acquiring the radio) that I want to try PSK31. My Netbook, which is dedicated to use in the shack, does not have a serial port and I knew I wanted something running a USB soundcard.

Once the device arrived I picked my software: gMFSK (linux) and plugged in the interface between the acc socket behind the Jup and the USB port of the Netbook. Once I got the software properly configured the device has worked without a hitch and provides the PTT function without drama, working with gMFSK. Ironically this is significantly less expensive than some of the other devices I was looking at. If you have one of the TT radios that can interface with this, and especially if you have a computer without a serial port, this just might be the ticket. Works flawlessly.

Works great and as specified. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Mine just arrived yesterday. Plugged it in to the computer, plugged it in to the radio. Following the very simple set-up steps, all 5 of them, I find that using MixW2 does all the digital modes with excellent results. Nothing could be simpler.

If you are interested in the digital modes this is one sure way to get on the air successfully.
