Solid Radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have owned both an IC-271A and IC-271H radio. They have excellent receive and also excellent transmit audio. The IC-271H with 100 Watt output make a great SSB or FM simplex radio for long distance communications without an amplifier. You wiil not be disappointed with this radio. I now have the IC-271H and am rating as more than 12 months because of owning the IC-271A previouly.

Nice 2M Base Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Very easy to use 2 meter SSB & FM base unit. Radio features 32 memories, if you require more, view the sister radio with 100 memories- IC-275. This basic radio is used primarily for FM at my station as I have a IC-746PRO for 2 meter sideband. The receiver is hot enough that I do not need a preamp or other mods. The display has two 10uf capacitors that should be replaced on these older radios. After all the years, the radio is still 'dead-on' frequency. Available with an output of 25 watts (A-version) or 100 watts (H-version). I preferred the 'A' version as it costs about $100 less.

Reciever section needs help! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Although rig is excellent out of the box,I made some modifications to the recieve section with the addition of the Mutek,Ltd. front end board which has lowered the noise figure, added bandpass filtering, and increased front end gain with the addition of gaasfet preamplifier(internal). The radio is not as good as an HF rig with a transverter for 2meters,the modifications are worth serious consideration.

Very good radio. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is now an older radio but if you want a competent well made and good performing radio I reccomend the 271A/H highly.
Less money that the Kenwood 711 (271A) and I like it much more.
Make sure you get it with all the accessories.

My review concerns the 271E (european version) Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Although it's already an old-timer, it still can compete with all the youngsters. The receiver is very hot and transmit modulation reports are always fine. There are all the features you need for serious DX and satellite work, even computer control is possible with an additional CAT module. Although I love to spend money on brandnew toys there still was no reason for me to replace this radio, it's simply an excellent performer.
