first class quality, high comfort level Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I never liked operating a radio with a hand mic except when operating mobile. So when I bought my base station radios I was in the market for a headset. I've owned two previous Heil models before and I never had any complaints so I looked at the Pro Set Elite.

This headset feels great. The mic boom is very solid and the ear pads are very comfortable to wear. Finish is top notch. Overall quality is of high level.

I have the Elite with number 6 element. You have to take care that if you buy the number 6 cartridge you need a radio that is capable of adjusting the tx audio both in bandwidth and EQ settings. Otherwise this fantastic mic will sound muffed.

Thanks to Bob Heil I got some menu adjustments as a starting point and I tweaked the settings just a little more to the response of my voice characteristics. I get fantastic audio reports all the time. I do not use a processor and I do not overdrive the ALC. Two tricks to maintain a clean signal and pure audio.

Why a lot oh hams still think that shouting into a mic or turning mic gain knobs fully CW will improve signal strength? Beats me. The opposite is true. Readability improves with a clean, not distorted signal.

Once set up properly this headset shines. I can wear it all day long working several hours. I tried the phase reversing switch. Personally I prefer the normal setting. I love the sound of the speakers to. Good audio, I really can hear when the opposite station transmits nice audio to.

So far I'm very pleased with this Pro Set Elite. It's a bit pricey but that pays off big time. Because of the overall quality finish I'm confident that the Pro Set Elite 6 will serve me well for years to come. If you can spare the cash and your rig can be tailored in the tx audio path, this headset is recommended.

Fantastic! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Ive owned my Pro Set Elite 6 for a while now and have found them brilliant!
Ive used them on my Yaesu FT897D, FT817ND and FT950, and i have had many good reports on the audio quality on each radio.
I dont have any problems that other people have had other than the brown stains left on white surface which came from the pad covers, quick wash cured that!
Some people also had problems re fitting the ear pads, just start at the cut out and twist the pad, its goes on itself!
Very good quality through out, well done Heil!

Ultimate Headset in DSP era Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
As one of the first user in Japan, I can say this is an ultimate headset long been waited in DSP era. Both HC-6 mic element and transducers are quite wide and flat responses. Fidelity of sound input and output to/from your transceivers are outstanding. As for DSP equipped rig, you can adjust its characteristics to your favorite. Little bit higher in its price, its worth to have this headset as you choose nice antenna. Apparently it increases human interface better than the other headset. Shape is cool. Quality is superb too. I really like this.

Excellent for my use Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Purchased these babies over a year ago for use with Icom and Kenwood transceivers. I work mainly SSB DX and rag-chew and the HM-6 mic produces excellent audio and compares well with Heil 781 and even the EV RE27.

But what keeps me using these is the excellent sound I am hearing from the headphones. I've tried 3 different Senniheiser headsets plus many others and to my ears these cans pull muffled audio out of the noise so I'm straining less and hearing weak signals better.

At first they were uncomfortable and heated up the ears in about 30 minutes - So I removed the cloth covers and I can now keep them on comfortably for 2 or more hours.

Yeah I know everyone has a different sized noggin and we all hear things a little differently but for me these are the best headphones I've found in almost 40 years of Ham and SWL listening.
To improve on these I would hope Heil would make them lighter – maybe a set to fit against the ears and add blue tooth for xmit and receive

Much better than Proset Plus Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Hi,
was angry about Proset Plus... RFI on the higher
bands despite of correct earthing of the whole station and counterpoises on the ground... ferrites rings everywhere...

Elite ist more solid, has a coiled cable and can be folded over in a very compact way...on the desk... I am getting very good modulation reports with this headset udes with the K3 from elecraft... No RFI anymore...just gone...

As soon as I am putting the Proset Plus back,
the RFI is back... Oppened the headset ,
no bypass capacitors, just a small printed board,
just an invitation to the RF to come in...

Good headset Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've owned the Heil Proset Elite IC for about a month now. I've recieved GREAT reports on audio. from a quote on the net "Ur Audio Never sounded better". The phones fit well, though a little tight, and i like the short offset to the side mike. They are much lighter than my Proset Plus. My only concern is the tight fit over the ears which i hope will loosen up over time.

Receiving good audio reports using Yaesu FT 2000 Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have been using the Heil Pro-Set Elite (with the HC-6 element) about 3 months. I use the EQ and the processor in the Yaesu FT 2000. Some folks ask, "what audio chain do you use", but I only use the headset and the EQ in the radio. I receive very good audio reports using this set up. I will be glad to send my menu settings if anyone needs the info. The Secret, by adjusting the EQ to work with your voice tones (frequencies), you to, should receive good audio reports.

Great sound Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Firstly I bought these for HF contesting, but after playing with the settings I now use these for even VHF FM work and the audio reports are astounding. for VHF just turn the DSP off and it works a treat. Don't take my word for it try it yourself!

Not bad - once you get used to them Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Purchased them primarily to work SSB contests, and used them right away on SS. I also used them for the 160 CW contest with good results. The phase switch helps with CW signals. Well, until I adjusted the headband for lighter pressure on the ears, I felt like my head was in a vice. Good news is that one can adjust that and once I did I was very happy. At first I thought the mic location to the side on a shorter stem was weird, but again after I played with the mic gain settings and keeping the mic at about an inch away from the left corner of my mouth, it's working great. I am using it with a Kenwood TS-2000 and find the best TX setting is "high boost" otherwise the audio is too bassy.
Now I find I keep putting these back on every time I turn on the radio.
