not durable Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Same problem here as others describe: Comfortable and nice headset, but the plastic parts started to simply fall apart after 6 years. Very disappointing for this price tag.

Updated- Still not a great headset, but a great company. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Final update- I judge a business by how they treat customers when there is a problem. I don't insist on special treatment or free stuff, but when there is an issue with a product I expect at least acknowledgment and some gesture towards making it right. Heil Sound, and Dr. Bob personally, could show a lot of businesses how it's supposed to be done. I got a personal email, and more responses on a Sunday evening from Bob himself. I was not asked to change my review, and while this headset was definitely not for me, nor of the quality I expect for the price paid, Bob reached out to try to make it right, and that's more than good enough for me. I feel much more confident now buying Heil products, since I've seen how they handle problems.

I purchased the Proset Elite since the older headsets (which I loved) were no longer available. Short version, I can only wear this headset for about 30 minutes before the pain in my ears becomes a distraction. After 1 hour, my ears will continue to hurt for several hours after taking it off. I wear headsets at work, 8-12 hours per shift, and have never worn a less comfortable headset. I read on here about ordering the oval pads, but after talking to Heil on the phone, and some measurement, the oval pads would be stretched back to round and not large enough for my admittedly big ears.

The components themselves are fine. Mic works well, headphone audio is adequate. I will end up making my own earpads from scratch, which is something I don't think I should have to do for the price of this set.

UPDATE 2020: I made custom earpads for the headset, and it worked, for a while. The plastic all over the headset turned sticky, and the attachments of the earpieces to the headband failed with very light use and storage on a headphone stand.

Had mine for over 10 years, never a problem. Only changed the ear muffs.

Headset Also Fell Apart Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Really liked them, but after a period of time, they also fell apart. Checked reviews on other boom headsets and now using a $60.00 Yamaha headset. Having no problems and they seem to last just as well. Would consider another Heil, but it has to be better than what I`ve seen so far.

Bob Heil can't watch everything all the time Time Owned: more than 12 months.
While QC is a huge issue with this product, I had to do a second take to be sure my Heil's weren't switched with Mississippi's Finest Junk. I am sure this will be deleted because of my comparison . But Mr Heil just can't watch all construction, I know most of the comments were on the quality of the items used, wires mostly and that is something Bob has control over. So, Bob Heil watch your suppliers a bit closer. And good luck correcting this semi large mess!

Quality issues Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I wanted to update that although I had contacted Heil Sound, and received a generated email back about being closed due to Covid19, I never expected Bob himself to contact me and personally assure me to take care of the headset. He explained that they now use a stronger method in the construction. So with that, I have to say that Heil REALLY stands behind their products. And I will surely purchase other Heil products in the future. Thanks Bob!

Owned for 5 years but hardly used. In fact, the most I've used these has been in the last 5 months as I have been off the air since 2016 and they have been stored in the box. They are comfortable and audio reports are great but construction quality is terrible. Like several others have posted, mine fell apart last week. The left ear cup/mic holder had broken, and the ear cup /mic has detached only being held by the very thin wire. Upon close examination it appears to have stress cracks in the plastic swivel joints. They have never been dropped or abused.

Good Electrical Performance Poor Quality Construction Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The good part of this review is twofold.

First, these head phones were the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. I loved them! I have a Pro7 set that I also love, but they are heavy compared to the Pro Set Elite 6.

Second, the audio in the headphones, and the reports on my audio, were both excellent. No complaints whatsoever.

Now the bad part. After two years of usage, all of a sudden the left headphone cut out. In the first few seconds of experiencing the outage, I shook the cord, and the headphone came back in a couple of times and then quit permanently.

Now the really bad part. I tried contacting Heil, but since we're in the middle of the Covid-19 crisis, there has been no response (it's now several weeks later). I have no complaint with that as I recognize that they have to protect their employees.

So, I opened up the headphones myself to see if I could fix the problem. I was stunned at the cheapness of the construction. I've never seen a headphone cable as shoddy as what I saw in this cable. Instead of the customary small gauge wire with individual insulation for each connection, there were three different stranded wires with no conventional insulation at all. It appears that each stranded wire has the same type of enamel on it that is found on the magnet wire used for winding toroids. There was no other insulation between the wires heading to each headphone and the ground. And, the individual strands of each wire were almost as small as a human hair.

I tried using a continuity tester to determine where the broken wire was but it was extremely difficult for me to get any of those enameled wires clean enough to make a connection and I finally gave up and decided to just replace the entire cable myself. This led to the discovery that the little tiny circuit board in the left headphone (to which all the connections for both headphones and the microphone are made) is incredibly cheap. Upon reheating the solder to remove the old wiring, two of the pads immediately came up and a third came up partially. In one of those cases, I had to just skip the destroyed pad entirely. The wires connecting the left headphone to the board were incredibly tiny (28 gauge?) wire, and one of them broke in handling the board.

After my work, the only remaining wiring in the whole headset is that which goes from that tiny board directly to the mike and to the two headphones. Otherwise, I've now replaced the entire cable heading to the radio, and the whole set works fine again. Indeed, assuming I don't experience the deterioration of the plastic described by other users here, I believe that the quality cable I've installed should last years. I hope to get the years of usage out of the headphone set that I originally anticipated. We'll see.

Overall, I'm disappointed.

Works Good Here! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have mine connected via a Heil adapter to my Flex 6500.

I had it over a year, NO breakage, NO problems.

I'm very satisfied with mine.

In light of all the negative comments, I have to add that I am NOT employed by Heil in any way.

I'm just a satisfied customer.

VERY DISAPPOINT ! VERY POOR QUALITY! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This review is so much more valid than the ones I previously made for other Heil Products
These ARE THE WORST HEADPHONES I have from Heil
Very fragile, plastic of inferior quality and above all NOTHING PRACTICAL. These Headphones are intended for consumption are to last 1 or 2 years and it's over.
I have 1 X PRO SET (very good) and 2 X Heil deluxe (very good)
When buying this model be aware that they will last a short time, because the plastics that support the headphones are of very poor quality and leave easily.

Same issue here with these disintegrating
Can’t add much more than what’s already been said.

“After about 5 years and Very little use, rarely used them they disintegrated, plastic degraded. ready for landfill.”

I called Heil and they offered to sell me replacement parts.

Had switch issues with another Heil mic that was seldom used.
