Mod for the Elite 6 Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
The previous reviews on these were great by some and terrible by others. The main factor being comfort, well I was one of the one's that could not wear the headset for more than 2 hours and contesting was a "pain".

I called Donna at Heil to see what could be done. She grab a set of Pro Set Plus cushions off the shelf and said the hole for your ear's measured 5/8" bigger than the Elite's and that they would fit on my headset.

I ordered a set and installed them on my Elite and this is now the headset that I wanted. No more pain while wearing the headset. I now love these headphones.

So if you have the same issue with the set setting on your ears and hurting, call Donna and order the Pro Set Plus cushions, they are Oval not round (which is better) but they do go on the Elite set with no problem

Hope it works for you as well as it did for me

feels and sounds great Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
replaced an old Pro-set that had all ready been rebuilt at Bob's Hospital once. After reading the reviews here and studying how to adjust them i have no problems with the fit. Using Bob's suggested settings with a little tweaking from the Yahoo ft-950 group, i get good audio reports.--- cant find anything i would change.

Could be better. Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
The Pro-set Elite 6 worked pretty good for about half hour. They started getting warm around the ears and I felt a bit of pressure on the sides of the head then I had to remove them. Also they would not work on 80 meters with my FT-950 much RF. I would not recommend this product if you have to wear them longer than a half hour or use the FT-950 radio.

Feels/sounds just fine Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Audio quality on both transmit/receive is excellent and the phase reversal switch really helps to create a sound stage in which each signal is discernable apart from its neighbors. As far as fit and comfort are concerned, I followed the directions and found that they give a great seal while remaining comfortable. I have spent a great deal of time with headphones on as both a studio musician and audio engineer and can say that the fit/comfort/build quality and performance leave little to be desired. It may be that there are some who simply will not acheive a good fit with these phones, but my experience has been totally positive.

Nope Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
My experience was like many others here. I purchased the ProSet elite as the latest and greatest, planning to replace my Pro-Set Plus.

I worked with the Pro-Set elite for several hours hoping it would get better - never happened.
The head set is uncomfortable despite many adjustments. The microphone sits too far from my mouth. The sound is good and the audio reports are good.

I am devoted to Dx and wear my headset for several hours at a stretch. After a half hour with this headset I must take it off and rest for a while.

Thank goodness I kept my Pro-Set plus. I sold the elite and took the loss as research.

Bob, please, please reinstate the Pro-Set Plus - it is the boss.

Not for us sensitive guys! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I wear headphones all the time. I have several sets that I listen to music with and also use for gaming or internet meetings. I can not think of a headset I had prior to these that made my head ache!

I was so bummed that after an hour with these phones I had to switch over to my other phones without a mic. I would try and tough it out but at some point the pain would win. I eventually just sold them... such a pity because they had a great sound and fantastic mic.

I would not recommend these to anyone.

Great Audio! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I’m using the Heil Pro-Set Elite boom mic and headset with a Yaesu FT-450AT. Meeting Bob Heil at Universal Radio the day I went in to purchase this item was just the bonus of the day!

Bob made sure to suggest I make adjustments on the transmit audio according to their spec for my radio and BAM, I was in business, great audio reports from the HC 6 element. The receive end is wonderful also.

You must adjust the headband as they also suggest in their literature. After that adjustment they fit fine.

Overall I’m very pleased with this product and it quality!

Excellent Audio - transmit and receive Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I debated for sometime before I went out and spent $160 for this headset, especially having read the mixed reviews here and elsewhere. I am very glad that I bought this product, it is excellent.

As far as wearing comfort, I found them to be very comfortable. The metal headband at the crown is adjustable, and allows you to open up the earpads so they are not tight. Also, the headband can be adjusted up so that it is not resting directly on your noggin. The padding on the earmuffs is very sufficient both for comfort and for reducing external noise. I have worn numerous headsets over the year for ham radio and also for aviation use and these are among the most comfortable.

I am using the headset with a Yaesu FT-950, and made initial adjustments on the transmit audio according to some suggestions from Bob Heil, as well as recommendations from users on the FT-950 Yahoo group. Tweaking the adjustments in the menu on the radio has resulted in excellent audio.

I will review them again when I have more experience with them but initially, I am very pleased with this headset.

Could have been thought out better Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Well, not quite as bad as described here but.. Yes they must have been protyped on a small child. These babies will crush your skull. But it takes about 20 seconds to reform the spring in the top of the unit and then they are fine. Speakers are a bit better than the prior Heil headsets. I do get great audio reports and they are chosen over my prior Proset. Also the mic boom is about about .5 inch shorter than the prior Proset. So it sits off to the side of the mouth. (Even the directiions say to put ot just above or below the mouth. Can't be done.) But again the audio reports are good even though I am speaking out the side of my mouth. hi hi.
If you don't have a Heil set, its a good buy. If you have an earlier model, it's probably not worth an upgrade. I wish they sold the mic element alone.

A Dud! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have, or have had, most of Bob Heil's products. I mean ALL of them. Have talked to Bob himself on the phone. I just do not understand this product.

I bought them when they first came out as the latest and greatest. The instant I put them on, I knew I was gonna have a problem. They're not circum-aural. They don't go around your ears - they go ON them. They hurt instantly. And, they're big, hot to wear, heavy. They're not uncomfortable - they hurt. Big Time! If I could have tried them first, I would have immediately taken a pass. Not possible in these mail-order, internet days. Sitting ON your ears (and eyeglass sidepieces), they don't isolate you from outside sound. They replicate WW II technology perfectly.

Well, being stubborn, I figured maybe I'd get used to them. Ha! More than a year has passed and One hour is the maximum misery I can stand - and that's without my glasses. I cannot wear them with this headset.

I gave them a 1 for the nice -6 element and the phase reversal.

I'll sell them and switch to something else - probably a Pro-Set, so it's not the end of the world. But mostly, I'm puzzled. How could the premier ham mic and headset guy in the world, possibly allow this to get out of the design concept stage???
