excellent Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I've had my Pro Set Elite 6 for a few months now. I find the audio quality on my Kenwood TS-590s to be excellent for both receive and transmit. My friends say it sounds like I'm right in the room with them.

My only complaint is that they do get warm-hot around the ears. They do a fantastic job of keeping room noise at bay, but that same quality also makes for warm listening.

I wish the mic portion would unscrew or something so I could use the headset w/o the mic, just as headphones while on cw. So the mic would not be in the way.

And if you're like me and have a nalgene with fluid or soda near by, you will want a straw to drink from.

Overall thought they are excellent.

works great with TS-590S Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I wore this headset for many hours this past weekend during the WPX SSB test, very comfortable, even with my nearly size 8 noggin.

The boom mike is easily articulated out of the way for food/beverage replenishment. I can easily get/return the mike to where it needs to be re angle, distance from mouth.

The earpiece covers are a very durable feeling cloth. However, their comfort in a high humidity environment, without air conditioning, could be an issue, don't know. They are easily removed, cleaned of sweat, etc.

The audio sounds great over the TS-590S TX MONitor function, and gets good audio reports. I found hb2 (high boost) on transmit/receive seemed to get thru the pileups, and hear reports/calls, best.

Sorry, but did have to pass on Heil's $30 foot switch. My foot switch is designed for musical instrument keyboard control, about $10, even came with a cable and right sized connector, and works great. And a PTT switch can be made for less than $5 in parts. I don't find VOX to be precise enough for fast paced contesting.

Overall nice headset for contesting, or daily SSB use, at least with the TS-590S. For comparison, I have a Logitech PC headset for use with netbook computer and remote HF ops. There's a reason the latter costs $30, i.e. comfort, durability, audio quality, etc., but it does work directly in radio, with right adapter. I also have an older lightweight Heil HC-4 headset, cheaper, but comfort, durability (glued mike boom nack on), mike element range, arise again.

The Pro Set Elite is a nice headset overall, and worth the cost.

Best Headset ever! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I love everything about this headset. The build quality is excellent, and the comfort is lovely. I don't understand why anyone would want a loose headset slipping off at every turn - a nice firm grip is much more reassuring.

I have used my Pro-Set Elite on an FTDX-9000D which was great. I have since downsized to an FT-950 and it works equally as well. I have tried it on my FT-857D and FT-817ND too and is fine on those but perhaps a bit overkill, except maybe doing a field day/QRP contest?

Audio quality wise, I have done tests with local hams, and there was no discernible difference between the Pro-Set Elite and my Yaesu MD-200A8X - which is great as that is an amazing microphone too. It only leaves me to choose if I want to operate on the Yaesu desk mic or the Heil headset.

The HC6 element is incredible and with the equaliser functions on the FT-950 I can make it sound like a HC5 or HC4 - something that would be impossible to do the other way around.

This headset will become a classic I am sure. Thanks to Bob and the team!

Hurts my head ! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've been using a Heil Pro-Set PLUS! for years on my Icom transceivers (PRO series & 7800). I recently bought a OrionII and wanted a second headset. Since the Pro-Set obviously isn't available anymore (why?) I bought a Pro-Set Elite.

But after using it for a couple of hours in the CQ160CW contest, I decided that this is no keeper.

Due to the small ear-pieces, the background noise is poorly reduced, but more important: this thing hurts my head after some time due to the size/shape of the earpieces and pressure on my ears!

So I immediatly sold it.

Good but not perfect Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Even after adjustments the Proset Elite is not as comfortable as my old Proset-4. The pads are not oval shaped and are a bit firmer so it squashes the ears a bit.

Audio wise it is far superior over the Proset-4. I can not set my narrow CW filter to 50 Hz and still copy. On my old Proset-4, I could only set the narrow CW filter down to 200 Hz. Below that and I could not hear the CW with clairity.

Speech quality is as as good or better. I like the idea that I can change my Icom 756 Pro2 compression from Narrow (DX) to Wide for casual QSO's and get that beautiful mic audio.

If Heil were to add the Proset-4 pads to the Elite I would give it a 5.

Great Headphones Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have used mine a lot in the past year and I enjoy using them. They were tight and felt heavy at first but I adjusted them and then they were fine. I can wear them for a long time with no problems. I get great audio reports with using them with my Kenwood TS-2000. They are really good working DX. Also excellent build quality. A 5 in my book!

Good Headset/Boom Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.

I like these headphones. Solid, fit well, excellent construction. Mic Element sounds good.

Single Dislike: As others have noted. They are just too tight and heavy for me. If you're wearing them under an hour at a time should be fine.

So at the price point, quality and associated accessories it's a good choice for most hams. Bested only by Heil's Pro-Set Elite Plus in this category.

Still there are superior options [in my opinion] that some of you may want to explore.

Alternative and *MORE Expensive* options:
1) Sennheiser HMD280 $265 Double Muff (XlR/1/4inch)
2) Sennheiser HMD281XQ $265 Single Muff
3) Sennheiser HMDC26-600-B7 $625 Dbl Muff/Noise Cancelling
4) Shure SM2's

Uncomfortable for me Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
All due respect to Mr Heil and his fantastic company and products...but this one just did not work for me. Very uncomfortable on-ear style. Disappointed. I will say that the customer service was superb...I eventually did a cheap headset and got a Heil adapter and hand-held PTT switch, very happy with those and the help I got from Heil company over the phone.

Poor for me Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Can't figure out what people like about this head set. Bought mine at Huntsville. The pads are so hard it is like putting two bricks on your ears. After using all day(about 12hrs)on the 10m contest my head hurt so bad I had to take an Advil. Now I wear my Bose QuietComfort 15 and just hold the Pro Elite in my hand so I can use the mic. The audio is fine just -5 on comfort.
