40 METER MONOBAND 1/4 WAVE VERTICAL ANTENNA WITH FOLDOVER Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have been very pleased with the quality of the antenna; the support from Zero Five with my decision to buy and install this 40-meter vertical antenna; and the attention to detail with respect to construction, packaging, and delivery. The antenna is up and running with a very limited number of radials due to winter weather in Montana. The performance has been good, and I look forward to installing a few more radials in the Spring.

Great antenna in all respects Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I enjoyed chasing DX on 40 meters with phased home brew verticals back in the late 1970's so I decided I would like to try a vertical again. I ordered this antenna and was extremely impressed with the quality of the components when I opened the box. The box contained all the necessary parts for the antenna minus the pipe you insert in the ground, concrete around the pipe, and any radials you might decide to use. I bought a 5 ft piece of 1 1/2 inch water pipe and some bags of concrete to complete the job. Assembling the antenna took less than an hour. Digging the hole, mixing the concrete, and placing the pipe took longer as did placing the radials. I have 24 thirty one foot radials under my antenna with plans to add 8 more later. I set the length of the antenna by using the marks provided by the manufacturer and my highest SWR is 1.3:1 at 7.300 MHZ. I operate phone totally so I will probably shorten the antenna slightly and fine tune the SWR later. It performs beautifully and is extremely well constructed. In the relatively short time I have had it I have worked stations in Europe, Africa, and South America running 1500 watts into the antenna. It is made of quality materials with a simple but effective design. If I decide to try phased verticals again I will definitely order a second one.

Update: I have been extremely impressed with the performance of this antenna on 40 meters and quite surprised at its performance on 15 meters as well. My SWR on that band is 2.2:1 and I have worked stations all over the world with relative ease.

Great antenna, AWESOME Customer Service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
After five years out on my dock over saltwater, a wind gust finally broke my 2nd hand ZeroFive 40 meter Vertical at the epoxy insulator.
I called Tom to order another vertical, and imagine my surprise when he offered to repair the base if I'd send it to him!
I reminded him that I wasn't the original owner, but it didn't matter. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
( yes, I did buy another one anyway, One worked so well that I'll install two as a phased array!)

Great Antenna Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
After using a 27' Zero Five for the last year and a half or so I swapped in the 40 meter full sized 1/4 wave today. I'm using the same 32 30' radials. SWR is lowest just below 7Mhz but I didn't do any adjustments because I'm going to put down several more radials and will wait to see how those effect the SWR curve. First contact on 40 was Malta using 500 watts and the second contact was Serbia at 100 watts. I plan to shorten the 27' antenna and re-purpose it to a roof mounted 20 meter 1/4 wave. Zero Five antennas are well made and work extremely well.
P.S. A little correction I said I had been using the 27' vertical for 1.5 yrs. but it's actually been 2.5 yrs. or so.

Got two 40 meter verticals the other day. They were really packed well, took about 20 minutes to get them out.. Went together with not trouble at all. Two days later we had winds reach hurricane force here ( just south of Cape Cod). Didn't tounch them at all.. They play very nicely too.
50 watts and first contact was station in London.
thanks for making a great product.. you can not go wrong with these antennas

Stands the test of time Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've been using Zero Five antennas for about 18 years now. Five are mounted out on my pier that goes 270 feet out into the Chesapeake Bay. NO Failures in all the years. 60 mph winds are common place here on Kent Island. I have a pair of 40 mtr phased verticals from Tom & they perform. Period. I just use phased cables, as described in the on4un Low Band book. Commercial/Military quality materials.
Forget all the cheap junk & get the best.

I bought two of 40m verticals about 3 months ago. Placed them out on the pier, with proper spacing, to be phased northeast & southwest. Using the Christman phasing system, described by ON4UN, Chapt 11. Using a single switch, to go ne or sw. Perfect antennas from Tom at Zero Five for this work. They stand up to the heavy winds & weather, we have on the Chesapeake Bay.
I have FIVE of Tom's verticals out in the Bay, & would NOT consider any other maker or vendor. Stick with what works. Biggest is 65 feet out 250 feet in the bay. You can hear me on 40 meters with the phased antennas, give me a call. 73's Nick

Solid Product, user completed Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I gave this a 4, but it's a very good product that I recommend.

As a new ham, this was my first 'real' antenna, having only used inverted V wire rigs before. I purchased this $220 unit to get me on 40 meters without the need for a tall supporting structure.

This antenna is a set of about 11 telescoping aluminum tubes that are slit at one end and are connected using stainless hose clamps, which is all pretty standard stuff. It does not require guying. What makes this product rather nice is the very solid base unit. The base unit is a piece of heavy aluminum plate with 2" stainless U-bolts to clamp to a mast, and also a heavy-wall base tube of the antenna element that includes a Delrin insulator to support the telescoping tubes. The feed point is an aluminum L-bracket with UHF female terminal.

To get this antenna installed, you'll dig a 10" dia. by 24" deep hole. You need to buy a 5' section of 1-1/2" steel pipe (the 'mast') and drive it into the hole you dug, and then fill the hole with about 200 pounds of concrete mix.

You make your own radial plate using 3' for 3/8" AC copper tubing, soldering into a ring. You need to buy an 8' ground rod, drive that into the ground and bond it to the radial ring and the antenna base unit. I bought 1500' of 14ga. stranded/insulated wire and cut it into 42 quarter-wave radials. These were stripped at one end and soldered to the radial ring using a propane torch and rosin core solder.

In all, I spent about $225 more on the extra stuff, bringing the total cost to about $450.

The VSWR was below 1.3:1 across that band. The default assembly yielded an antenna that was just a little long, but is easily shortened by sliding the tubes together a few inches and rechecking VSWR. In the General Class phone section of 40 meters, this antenna is easily under 1.2:1.

This antenna also runs in 15 meters, below 1.5:1 VSWR. Very nice.

Radio performance seems great to me (but, remember I am a new Ham). I seem to be heard by everybody on the 40 meter nets I've checked in on. Often times hearing all side the relay communications. The winds have been gusty this last week, and the antenna seems to easily take the wind load. I think ZeroFive rates it for 85mph.

Bottom line, I am very happy with this product. But note that this is about 50 product and 50 percent do-it-youdelf.

Exceeded my expectations Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I needed a low profile antenna for a vacation QTH on an 80' bluff overlooking the Atlantic ocean on Cape Cod Massachusetts. I am used to a 2Ele 40 mtr yagi at 85' that I use at my home QTH 100 miles inland. Easy to install singlehanded, with a 1:1 to 1.2:1 SWR from cw to the top of the phone band. I am using the optional current choke and the results are spectacular. With just 1/2 doz radials, my reports are just like the Yagi results, from stations I've worked from both locations. Tom is quick to help with anything, and the antenna construction is commercial grade. High winds-no problem.
