Fantastic LW Receiver Time Owned: more than 12 months.
For the frequency range it covers, despite not having notch filter, PBT etc this is a terrific receiver.
I only have a couple of nitpicks about it. The synch detector could hang on to signals better, it works but after having used a Sherwood SE-3 which never loses lock I am sometimes annoyed at the dropouts. In fairness, it does lock back on quickly, though, and is noticable better than the AOR AR3030's synch.
The Lowe receivers are lauded for great audio. I kind of disagree, I'm a little disappointed that it's not better for its reputation. It's more than just using the top firing speaker that I'm referring to, almost all HF receivers really need external speakers Running it to a HiFi amp with equalization does help and its much better than most, but I've honestly heard better receivers on HF like the Mckay Dymeks DR22C.
The HF225E is excellent for longwave DXing. The sensitivity is excellent across the range from 30 kHz up to HF and using the CW audio filter will help to zero in on a weak signal. The Palstar R30A is equal on MW but the HF225 is noticably better on longwave, though the Palstar isn't bad.
The keypad is a huge help, and if you can get the battery pack option and carry case this is a terrific field radio for DXpeditions. Get it out to a park away from RFI and attach a PAR EF-SWL, preferably some headphones too and you can really enjoy HF.

Excellent AllArounder Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
OK, it is not a full function communications receiver, but for SWL, MW and other listening this is a great little rig. Good selectivity, good sensitivity, and very easy to use. The keypad option is a must for easy QSY. The AMS sync detector works well. Very portable and compact, fits pretty much anywhere. Nice selection of filters.

Love this radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Sold my Eton E1 at a loss to finance the purchase of this radio and have absolutely no regrets, this is a real shortwave radio I was always worried that the Eton was just going to die no worries with this radio, metal case great filters and mine has the Kiwa audio upgrades, the 1 KHZ tuning resolution does not bother me at all the weighted tuning knob is great, the Sync is not as good as the Eton but I prefer ECSS when the going gets tough anyway. I have mine set up in a Pelican case with a gell cell, the BHI DSP speaker (Gap Hear IT Now) an a RadioMaster PA-30 antenna this combo works absolutely great, the perfect hotel radio in a case
