Super audio for Hams Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I am posting this model of TELEX in case some of you hams manage to get hold of a set secondhand or surplus. This is a medium impedance, fairly sensetive, communications headphone that was marketed for aircraft use. Resembles the classic old school headset, no big muffs or pads or fancies. I say medium impedance as the DCR is 150 ohms and the impedance must be maybe 3-600 ohms, possibly. Mono quarter inch plug, straight cord, black poly with fully adjustable headbands. Rubber type ear cushions, not nearly as uncomfortable as "head clamp" vintage stuff. You would not say it is as comfortable as your big fluffy muff hi fi phones but it is lightweight and reasonably comfortable. What it has over your hi fi phones is clear voice communications and articulation, voices cut thru without alot of extranious noise. Sort of a Heil or D 104 microphone for your ears. Not tinny, just clear. I have two pairs and they are a go to for SSB listening, and not bad for CW due to the clarity factor and sensetivity. If you get a chance to grab some, try them and you may love them for ham use.
