Work's for me! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Ordered mine from Burghardt's ARS. Came packaged well..I run it at 500W or less..but will do around 700W. I had a problem after a week..I flipped the power switch on & heard a pop..blew a fuse. Called Ameritron..talked with Mike & together we found a bad tube (left front) that caused the left front grid resistor to blow. He sent out a replacement tube and resistor, but meanwhile, I ordered a matched set of Taylor Select 811A's (from RF Parts)and a bunch of "quality" 51 ohm 2W wire-wound resistors from Digi-Key & replaced the tubes & resistor before the Ameritron replacements came. Amp work's great now (though I'm a little gun-shy with it!)..I have a SteppIR BigIR Vertical..& my SWRs are low on all bands (my tuner in the 746 Pro is turned off). I get good reports all the time. The ICP-120 (Ameritron) In-Rush current Protector I purchased to use with the amp?..Different story..That's on it's way back to Ameritron, as it hasn't worked since I got it..I turned it on..my HV on the 811H drop's back to about 1500V on Standby (& stay's there!)..I went to turn the amp off (switch on the ICP-120 box)..and the box was very warm with the tell-tale smell of burning electronics emanating from it...Go figure?....

Awesome for a beginner! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Recently purchased on from a great ham. Power out is right up there without a problem. Easy to use once you walk through the tuning steps a few time. The manual for tuning is a little confusing at times for someone that has not tuned an amp before, but I imagine with all the web site out there one can figure it out.

I think this amp is great for the new ham. Tubes are inexpensive if you have an opps, good service to answer question when calling also. Can find used ones inexpensive, and new is affordable.

After trying barefoot getting into HF nets and having to use a relay, I flick the switch and BAM, there I am. Makes the bottom of the cycle and endless days with no sunspots more enjoyable.

Barefoot is nice when the propagation is there, but actually using the radio for a QSO is better when it is not.

nice little amp! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I got my 811H just this week. Although the directions are a bit confusing i have owned other amps in the past so the tune up was pretty simple for me. It will do 750 to 800 watts PEP with about 40 to 50 watts drive on SSB on most bands. A bit lower on 80 and 160(about 650 to 700 tops but thats all you need) but overall im pretty satisfied. The tubes are cheap and plentifull and the parts used in the amp are pretty common. Plus, you can just plug the amp into the outlet on the wall and not have to bother with 220 volts. In fact, the directions say that to convert to 220v you will not gain any more output than what the amps does now, but the 220 is a plus since the draw will be less than on regular 120. No, the amp is no QRO or Alpha but then again i cannot afford to spend a lot on a bigger legal limit amp, not ar this time.
Even though Ameritron is now owned by MFJ they still put out a quality product.

Good Amp Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I was surprised to see so many people having problems with this amp. I purchased one new in the early 90's and took it with me on my first overland trip to YS-land (El Salvador) from North Carolina. I had no idea the ride thru Mexico and Central America would be so bumpy, the amp took a LOT of abuse from the many deep potholes and un-marked speed bumps on the 3000 mile trip. However it arrived in San Salvador in fine shape and I used it on 117V for some time with 700-800w PEP out. Never gave any problems, worked well on WARC as well.

Would highly recommend for a first amp or for a backup amp

Great and Awful Time Owned: more than 12 months.
13 months old and meter lamp just went out. The amp works great but whoever designed the meter lamps needs to go back to the drawing board, way back! DISGUSTING!

Tickled Pink Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I picked mine up at HRO in Delaware about 2 months ago, and I am very satisfied with it. It's my first tube amplifier, and I probably made a few mistakes at first, but it held together with no funny smells or noises. I use a relay cable assembly I bought on e-bay, and everything works as advertised. 700w on CW, 400 on AM @25w input, 700w on SSB. It came in a double overpacked box, the size of a TV, and seemed to weigh about 50lbs.

Great Amp For Price Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Great little amp. Tubes are cheap to replace. 600 watts is all you need to be herd. perfect for first time amp owners. no problems or complaints.

Good and cheap amplifier Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I normally run my amplifier with 500-600 watts output and that is more than sufficient to be heard, even in crowdy pile-ups. I always get good
reports.I think the amplifier is easy to tune. The only minor complaint I have is the noise from the fan, but it will be changed with a
almost silent PABST-fan in nearest future - I have got a "go" from Ameritron.

Good Amp for low cost! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I've had this amp for 6 months and it works great! I get a full 8OO watts on all bands with a 50 watt drive.
