| Not Worth Your Time |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
| I worked as a analyst for the DoD for a decade and after looking at the setup procedure for this piece of hackware, I decided it was not worth the time it would take to configure it. Opening UDP ports, going in to each router, configuring firewalls... This is a waste if time. |

| Software Works Well IC7600 |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
The software presentation of the Icom rig and its functionality is impressive. The latency is minimal and I was astounded by the quality of the audio that is passed from the Client PC to the Server. Almost all of my IC-7600 functions are available, which is miles ahead of some of the "generic rig" software out there. Unfortunately on the 7600, the Spectrum Scope is not a view-able option - on the newer rigs (7610, 7300) it is. All in all very functional software for a reasonable price.
That being said, with Icom rigs that do not have a built in Network Server you need to set one up with the software (Host Side). In Version 2.00 that is simple & straight forward. You will also need to setup the Remote Utility and Remote Client software on the Client side, again pretty straight forward. Port Forwarding is an area that needs to be set on your router, those not comfortable with this can get a knowledgeable friend to set this (actually pretty simple).
One of the benefits of any remote software is the ability to run on your LAN or from outside coming in from the WAN, which is my primary use of it.

| Works For Me |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
I had originally had the RS-BA1 software a while back... I have a 7300 and the software worked but the Ver 2 has some nice features that I like .. I have a simple Setup and just wanted to be able to connect to my station via a laptop... The Software can be a little tricky to setup but once you get it going, I find it to be pretty stable.. Its not for everyone but I find it does what I need and wanted to do...

| very disappointed |
Time Owned: 3 to 6 months. |
I purchased the IC-9700 for satellite operation and this transceiver works very well.
Then I purchased the RS-BA1 V2 which isa advertised for the IC-9700.
Unfortunately this software does not support the most important featers of the IC-9700, and does not support satellite mode at all.
For me, this software is totally unusable. Should better have saved my money for something else. |

| RS BA 1 Software good for me |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
Hi All, Fred g4vvq in Essex, Uk here, I have just bought this kit, it cost me about £270 uk money, you get the software cd, a usb lead (printer cable) and a controller, (tuning knob).
I must admit I had a job to get it all working, but looking at a lot of U tube clips, and asking questions and pulling my hair out etc, after 4 days I got it working, its ver 2 I believe I have no experience with ver 1, after setting it up it all works fine, mine is a strange arrangement, I use it on a laptop in the house, the radio is in an outbuilding about 100 meters away, the internet telemetry actually goes through the mains power cables, and I have a laptop at each end...one server and one remote, I use the local IP address, it hasn't been tested via the Public IP address yet, i'm not 100/% sure how to do that...but its working for me.
I have worked a few stations on it, the only thing I cant do is turn the antenna round, I use it with an IC 7300, and no real problems, the audio was a bit tricky to set up on the PC, but I got there in the end, and Port numbers was a bit of a bind, if you want the software only I believe you can buy the disk off ebay for about £50, make sure you get the licence and product numbers, it wont work without that, the suppliers appear to be in Japan.
The Layout is from radio to a PC using a USB printer type lead, from the PC mine goes through an ethernet cable to adaptors and through the mains cables to the router in the house, from there its wi-fi to my laptop. in theory you can control the radio from anywhere in the world, as long as you remember to leave the power supply and the laptop on hi..there are a few functions you cant use, but that isn't a problem. It comes with instructions and there are a load of U tube clips from Icom and W6FCC does a series on it...hope that all helps from Fred g4vvq |

| Disappointing Software - Wasted Money |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
This is a review of v1. I have no experience with v2.
It deserves a score of 1, but I give this a 2 because for standalone radio operation on phone, it's OK. The RC-28 remote knob works pretty well. For CW, it's lame. There's no way to connect a CW key of any kind. Using the keyer macros is cumbersome. I'd expect a software product to create virtual COM ports so you could interface this to a logging program. Nope! I consider it a serious waste of money! The free RemoteHams software is more effective and it's free. It isn't as pretty, but it works a lot better! And it's FREE!
I'd be very curious to try v2, but I see no real improvements to these features. It should be FREE, as an incentive to buy Icom radios for remote use. I do love my IC-7610, but Elecraft and Flex are far better for remote operation. C'mon Icom! It's 2019! |

N1EE stated below that you cannot import the settings of the transceiver into RS-BA1 and he is totally wrong. (I will see if QRZ is helpful here and try to mail him).
It is a design feature, not a bug to have it split between the transceiver and RS-BA1 for a good reason. This way you can also control other's 9700's with your data.
I have RS-BA1 v2 working for the 9700, 7300 and 7851.
While not 100% perfect, it does very well. Installation is a breeze.
What could be better:
more controls like the original TRX you connect to.
open information so that you could use parts or all of the codecs used.
The ability to switch between TRX could be more handy. Now you need several places to "fix" before I switch between the transceivers.

the s/w is not too intuitive to install/config but when you have done it a few times. it's easy enough.
I have used it for quite some time on less that good connections and works ok.
price is around EUR 80 |

Not even one star. This is some of the worst software ever written.
Yes you can control your Icom, but you will be screaming mad by the time you get it working. Next you will find it will not load any of the setting and memories you have programmed into your radio into the software. My IC-9700 has hundreds of memories programmed painstakingly added over days and many hours of work, and YOU CANNOT READ THE MEMORIES OF YOUR RADIO INTO THIS SOFTWARE.
So if you have all 60 meter memories in your HF rig in here, along with favorite netfrequencies, with alpha numeric names. NONE OF THAT WILL BE READ BY THIS SOFTWARE.
AND NO. YOU CANNOT LOAD IT FROM THE SD CARD EITHER. It is a different format entirely.
While I love ICOM radios, they are IDIOTs when it comes to their software. GESTURES TO ICOM FOR THIS HUGE F UP.
GESTURES TO ICOM. Loud cursing you hear from 3000 miles away. THAT IS ME. I AM NOT going to hand program this software AND NOt have IT MATCH MY RADIO CONFIGURATION WHEN I MAKE CHANGES TO ONE OR THE OTHER.
THE PURPOSE OF SOFTWARE IS IT MAKE THIS EASY AND SEAMLESS. you BLEW IT. |

| Not perfect, but overall works as specified. It WAS somewhat disappointing that Icom decided not to provide an upgrade path from version 1 to version 2; it seems version 2 is considered "different" software and must be purchased separately. My advice is to check Ebay; one can order directly from a few vendors in Japan much more cheaply than the new $150 price in the USA. |

| Does the job, some features missing, radio: 7300 |

Connecting to the IC-7300. The new drivers, and the new version 1.96 seems to work. It works over wifi and hot spot to iphone. I have it running off a cheap win10 HP laptop. If there is a power failure longer than the battery life of the laptop then it will shut down with no option of restart. I tried to use Pc remote to re-initialize but found that windows then installs its sound drivers knocking out completely the codec sound drivers. I tried a fix for this by altering the registry but it did not work. I might try a third party remote pc software where one can shut down any audio. Then I could restart the program. Admittedly I feel like I am operating the Mars Curiosity…
The expensive Icom USB remote encoder (tuning knob) works great.
Missing/issues: Memo Pad missing, Volume adjust through remote encoder not allowed, have to press tuner button then tune button, spectrum scope is too small and cannot be enlarged, filter graphic is very small, bad internet or latency can cause connection loss with 50/50 chance of restart, will not start unless local audio is established and prone to failure if local audio is changed on the fly and last but not least monitoring your own signal subject to terrible latency and feed back loop.
I am using an EnFed antenna. I use the 7300’s internal tuner for fine tuning to get below 1:3 swr.
When it works it works, but it is prone to failure without the possibility of restart. To mitigate failure I have done the following:
UPS at the router/modem
Use Dyndns in the event the ip changes anyway
Laptop with nothing else on it to run software with fixed IP and proper port forwarding
Double choked, shielded a/b usb cable. I have found that when I transmit an amplified signal it screws with the software and can drop the driver or the connection.
