Hamfest instead

The Capitol City Hamfest in Jackson Mississippi is that weekend.
I am choosing the hamfest over WFD.

Not an ARRL contest

KB6QXM: Winter Field Day is not an ARRL event, so your criticism is completely unfounded.

Another reason to dislike the ARRL

Local club reached out to the ARRL to ask for rule changes allowing hams to work from their home QTHs under the same club call due to the pandemic surge. The ARRL said no. Full disclosure. I have never been and will never be a member of the ARRL. This is another reason why I can't stand the ARRL.

still undecided

I guess I'll decide by Jan 28. If yes I'll do inside portable.

Absolutely not.

It's not Field Day, the exchange is completely different, the rules are different, the classes are different - where do they get off calling it "Field Day" anyway?

Not that crazy anymore...

To me, camping out and playing radio just go together like peanut butter and jelly. Which is probably why I love Field Day.

Now once upon a time, 30 or more years ago, I'd have been one of those people who camped out in winter conditions to play Winter Field Day. Problem is, back then we didn't yet have a Winter Field Day.

At our December club meeting and holiday dinner, one of our members suggested we try Winter Field Day this year. He's got a heated out building we can operate from. So this year, I'm doing Winter Field Day for the first time. But we'll be inside doing it. As I get older, I find I'm really not that crazy anymore to deliberately hang out in the freezing cold.
