Xenia (Dayton) GOING UNLESS!!
Hey gang: It's been two years since we have all been there! Given the age and cost, I will only get older and the cost to go will grow. Besides all of that I miss it too much! So, my Bud and I are going, 10 + hour drive plus $$$ cost It may be the last time.

Dayton...
As I'm in Kalifornia, with current gas prices... No Way!!

Too far...
I'll pass - but, in fairness, it would imply a journey of close to 4,000 miles for me! It is many years since I last went to any ham radio fair - even a local one - but I am thinking about going to at least one this year - though they will be within 50 miles of home...

Dayton
Is the pandemic over ? When they start to put out new products to purchase it might be worth the look. Product support also needs to return for all past and present Equipment. If they can't get a new idea, put out a revised product that still sells close to new price on the used market. Lots of demand for them. You all know the ones.

I'd like to go but....
I'm not going to Xenia though I've enjoyed Dayton a few times. There's just not enough excitement about going to the hamfest to drive from MN to OH. Ambivalent I suppose. In any event I have too many past hamfest "projects" to be searching for flea market stuff. Local hamfests have enough stuff (junk) to examine and 2-3 hours is about right.

Dayton Hamfest
Seeing one hamfest, was enough for me. Although, in reality I have been to a total of 4 in my 50 plus years of being a ham.

Gasoline prices and risk of Covid.

Definitely going unless they cancel it
Car gets great mileage, and it's only a 4 hour drive. Pandemic be damned. Had COVID got the shots. Haven't been able to go the past 2 years, so unless they cancel it, heck yeah I'm going!

Dayyton/Xenia
I have other and more pressing needs and priorities and Dayton/Xenia would be way down on the list. Family comes first, period.

COVID Risk
I would like to attend, but...
The pandemic isn't over yet --we may be in the middle of the next surge by that time.

Cost
About $270.00 - $300.00 for gas.
Hotel, 2 nights at least $300.00 ( IF I can find a room ). I don't want to reserve a room, covid could shut the entire event down for all we know.
Food for 2, Approx. $300.00
So, around a $1000.00 with cost of admission.
Not to mention, last time I went, a very large percentage of the vendors were selling computer junk and hand tools.
Maybe next year.

Dayton Hamfest
I would be going, but son and daughter-in-law are having their first baby about that time. Which is more important? I made the right choice.

Lost All Interest and desire to attend after they moved to a smaller venue. Too restrictive. I'm done.

Attending Dayton/Xenia
I am elderly/disabled. I have to see the water closet too often, and suddenly. I do not like diapers. I am defaulting on my debts, as it is. I need a cane to walk due to knee joint issues.

Xenia (AKA Dayton)
Been there about a dozen times. Always like the fest but the facilities at Hara -- and to some extent the attitude of the fest committee -- were not very suitable for limited mobility people like me so it was harsh. At the fairgrounds it was better. The fest is the best. If several things get arranged and lined up I will go. Maybe -- probably -- the last time since it's 925 miles, I don't fly, I'm 76, and with limited mobility it's a ot to deal with.

Not this year
I was planning on going this year, but with the rising cost of fuel and everything else, and being on a fixed income, probably won't make it. Not scared of Covid at all, but I am scared of the potential damage to my bank account.

Looking Forward to Going
I'm looking forward to attending for the presentations, talking with vendors, and the "spectacle" itself. I enjoy the social interaction, even with a mask if necessary (hope not).

Proud Anachronism!
Per the Xenia Website: "As the Hamvention® Flea Market area is intended for selling amateur radio equipment and since the number of available spaces is limited, space rental will be limited anyone who will be ACTIVELY
SELLING products related to the hobby of amateur radio."
Unfortunately, this is rarely enforced and I'm tired of attending "amateur radio" hamfests and flea markets that are 50%+ old computer equipment. Especially when I'm being charged $26 advanced and $31 at the door at Zenia...
I'm a proud anachronism! DE K4SSS

Too Soon
Considering the attitudes these days regarding COVID, vaccination and masking, this is way to soon for an event like this to be occurring.

Cost, value
I went 10 years and 12 years ago. Loved it. But things have changed. Expensive gas, lodging, food and low value of over-priced used gear.

Someday I hope to make it!
Being an hour's drive from Hamcation I'm a little spoiled (I really enjoyed it this year), but someday I hope to make it up there. It's definitely on my ham radio bucket list.

Too Far
This stuff is always 1000+ miles away. How about some stuff west of the Mississippi, or the continental divide? Did you know that there are hams out here? Apparently not.

With the cost of travel and everything else it's just to expensive.
If I'm looking for any gear or info it's all available on the web.
